two subjects with question
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý
Greetings: I am new to the group so if my message is old business, I apologize. There are two subjects I would like o present to the group:
1, Changes in accuity
2.Getting eyeglasses
?
But first, a brief profile...
I am a 74 year old white male. Diagnosed with NAION spring of 2017. Started with dark spot in left eye vision but got worse in December of 2017. Current condition is 5% vision in right eye and 40% vision in left eye. I have poor peripheral vision, cannot see most colors unless very bright (like lime green or lemon yellow) and what I do see is like looking through frosted or opaque glass. Sound familiar?
?
1. CHANGES IN ACCUITY: Since I was diagnosed, there have been two times I detected a degrading of my sight picture. The first was in October of 2023 after receiving multiple vaccines on the same day. I had severe fatigue after the vaccines and two days later I detected worse vision. The second incident was after day surgery in April of 2024. The surgery? required general anesthesia but all went well except the next day I detected yet additional, worse vision. My worse vision can be described as inability to see detail. The three ophthalmologists I have consulted about this have no explanation. HAS ANYONE IN THE GROUP EXPERIENCED THIS? Please know, for brevity this description leaves out a lot of detail.
?
2. GETTING EYEGLASSES: I think I need a new eyeglass prescription but the optometrist seems to have a hard time figuring out the best prescription. I realize my NAION does not help the situation but is there anything that can/should be done to help me see more clearly? That is, without blurred reading vision? By-the-way, I realize my disease affects the back of the eye while glasses improve the front of the eye.
?
I hope for a productive conversation with any and all who can enlighten me on theses two topics. Thank you.

Hey Bruce! I just had to respond to tell you I am so sorry you are one of us...What vaccines did you receive?? I am a 71 year old white female.? I had a NAION event in August of 2022.? It was a time of being way too busy.? It was pretty textbook, in that the bottom half of my left eye was that of frosted glass.? mine happened during the day.? ?I do believe main factor was stress. Despite steroids, etc, I did not have any improvement.? The following February, I decided to have the Shingles vax.? I had the ok from my rheumy, NO and NP.? Within 2 hours, I felt like I had the flu.? Within a few days, I had lost more vision.? My NO, Rheumy, and NP all believe it was the vax.? There is a small section of my left eye that is clear around 10:00.? The rest is cloudy.? I was told not to get any more vaccines until I saw an endo.? Haven't done that yet.? Had a knee replacement earlier this year.? Did not use general anesthesia.? All went well.? I do so hope you are able to find something and someone to help you with glasses.? My right eye is still good.? I had cataract surgery in 2020.? It is scary to think about, so most of the time I just try not to...I just try to eliminate as much stress from my life as I can... Thanks for the advice about going to UW Medicine. The first NO to see me was Dr. Eugene May from UW and I have seen him more than once. However, going to Seattle from Moses will be attempted only because of dire circumstances.

Ruby...Did you get my reply to your message? Since I am new to this group and its features, I am not sure I answered you. Please let me know if I was successful. Thanks.
