The article claims :

Good post Chiarina. Couldn¡¯t agree more with your post.
Find most days you get some form of frustration from the
lack of vision. As to what caused it not a clue I had
never been fitter than I was when I had my first episode
at 57. Driving wise much the same as you I only drive in
day light and only places I¡¯m familiar with. This is

?
Hi LIsa.? Yes.? This is my story too.?
I think it was 6 months for the eye to stabilize and
then the sight you have is the sight you will live
with.? Glasses have only helped me a little.? My
vision is still a little blurry.? My doctor told me
it won't get worse and may not get any better.? I
can still see and do daily activities but I have had
to give up my work as a teacher and I cannot drive
long distances.? My vision is like looking through a
dirty window or window mesh.? I hope all goes well
with you.??
I was diagnosed four weeks ago. My right eye
almost half is very blurry. I have sleep apnea and
low blood pressure not due to meds. The only thing
drs found after 2 cat scans. 1 mri is high
cholesterol. Drs told me 6 weeks for eye to be
stable for a new eye exam to get glasses. Does
this scenario sound familiar to anyone? Sincerely,

Yes that sounds so unlucky. I hope you have come to terms with it now. Like you say it does take time to adjust and no one else seems to understand what you¡¯re going through because you look so normal ? And people you have told forget because there¡¯s no signs
of a disability. I could declare myself partially blind but I¡¯m loathed to do so because I don¡¯t like to think of my self that way. Lovely to speak to you Chiarina. Wishing you good luck and good health. Paul

Yes Paul. Colour has been been turned down. Poor contrast. If I look Off Center, colours look bright and clear but my central vision has been affected and so colour when I look straight ahead is bland. I am so sorry that you have had this happen

Yeah. My treatment was the same as yours. 3 days of intravenous steroids, CAT scan, MRI, bloods then two weeks of tablet steroids when I got home. It was a horrible year. All I did was cry?
Hi Chiarina
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?So nice to speak to someone with very similar experiences of NAION. I had the the first attack in left eye in 2015 and 2nd attack in right eye 18 months later. I had the usual 3 days in hospital with IV steroids and lots of bloods done followed
byMRI with contrast. All negative. Followed by 5 years of routine follow ups. I have now been discharged. Luckily don¡¯t have to take any meds. Could I ask if you have colour blindness almost if someone has turned the colour contrast right down on tv.?

Hi?
As I mentioned in another thread I have a big blood pressure drop after eating and apparently one in three older people like me experience it. It's called postprandial hypotension
.
My doctor wasn't really familiar with it. My blood pressure when I visited my doctor previously was almost perfect so he had no reason to suspect I had blood pressure problems. Instead of eating 3 meals a day, I now have 6 smaller meals.

Yes Paul. Colour has been been turned down. Poor contrast. If I look Off Center, colours look bright and clear but my central vision has been affected and so colour when I look straight ahead is bland. I am so sorry that you have had this happen to both of your eyes. The sad thing is that I born with poor vision in my left eye. Due to a pulled retina at birth and I think I have about 20 percent vision in it and my NAINON struck my only good functioning eye. Doctors couldn¡¯t believe how unlucky I was! Yeah. My treatment was the same as yours. 3 days of intravenous steroids, CAT scan, MRI, bloods then two weeks of tablet steroids when I got home. It was a horrible year. All I did was cry?

hi everyone...i just joined yesterday.? i am very new to NAION...i am a 48 year old female and on dec 4th i discovered that i my vision was very blurry.? it took a few weeks, but the dr diagnosed me w/ NAION in both eyes. which i was told
was pretty rare.
? i had 3 days of IV steroids in the hospital and had 2 months of oral steroids. the swelling has gone down some but my eye sight is currently 20/400 in both eyes.? this has absolutely changed my life...i can't drive or work.? ?reading glasses help me see a
little better with my left eye.? my right eye only see's blurriness and my refraction test is a zero, so no corrective lens will help.? i'm so scared because the more research i do, the more i realize that i'm probably not going to get any better.? i know
this is a waiting game and i just need to be patient but it's so hard.? it also scares me because they are not certain why this happened to me so it i don't know if this will happen again and loose more sight.??

I now take BP meds with100% compliance using a CPAP machine. No other causal factors

Re: Ischemic optic neuropathy
Hi Paul.? Did you have scans and blood tests to see what may have caused it?? Mine all came back clear so the only thing they put it down to was untreated Sleep Apnea.? Have you had a test for Sleep Apnea?? I was 59 when this happened to me.? My doctor told me that it was a very common age range to be getting this type of thing.? Some days are better than others vision wise.? Its very frustrating.? Like you, I only drive locally.? Take care.? Its a shock when it happens and it took me a while to come to terms with it.??

Good post Chiarina. Couldn¡¯t agree more with your post. Find most days you get some form of frustration from the lack of vision. As to what caused it not a clue I had never been fitter than I was when I had my first episode at 57. Driving wise much the same
as you I only drive in day light and only places I¡¯m familiar with. This is allowed with an annual eye test from the British drivers licensing centre
?
Hi LIsa.? Yes.? This is my story too.? I think it was 6 months for the eye to stabilize and then the sight you have is the sight you will live with.? Glasses have only helped me a little.? My vision is still a little blurry.? My doctor told me
it won't get worse and may not get any better.? I can still see and do daily activities but I have had to give up my work as a teacher and I cannot drive long distances.? My vision is like looking through a dirty window or window mesh.? I hope all goes well
with you.??
I was diagnosed four weeks ago. My right eye almost half is very blurry. I have sleep apnea and low blood pressure not due to meds. The only thing drs found after 2 cat scans. 1 mri is high cholesterol. Drs told me 6 weeks for eye to be stable for a new eye
exam to get glasses. Does this scenario sound familiar to anyone? Sincerely, Lisa

Re: Ischemic optic neuropathy
Thanks Joe, it may be too late for my right eye as I'm right eye effected since 9/22. However, I am also disc at risk in my left eye so I'm going to speak with an acupuncturist that I know about this. I'm interested in any hope.

Re: Ischemic optic neuropathy
My story is a little different but I feel compelled to chime in. I had a NAION attack in November.? It left my right eye almost blind.? I was severely depressed but my wife kept hope.? She sought out alternative treatments for me.? The main reason being is that she also had a condition and the medical community didn't help so she sought out a supplement regiment and it cured a condition that she had.? To be completely honest, when I saw her go through her struggles and slowly cure herself I was still not convinced that the supplements and alternative medicines was the reason why.? I still did not give the treatment any credit and out of my own ignorance I wrote it off as time and the body healing itself.
Back to my situation.? Out of desperation I chose alternative medicine as?a path that I was?willing to take.? I was looking to?do?things differently even if I did not 100% believe in?what I was doing.? I also went ALL IN.? So I started with the UPMC alternative treatment department and they put me in touch with an acupuncture specialist, Tricia Smith M.S, LAc.? She studied my condition and came up with an acupuncture treatment.? In addition, I scheduled with another acupuncturist, Mara Carlini MSAOM, LAc.? I gave her a copy of the web article that I attached below and she developed her own regiment for me based on the readings.
Within 2 week's time I started to notice something was changing.? I thought it was a placebo effect.? I was in disbelief.? The 3rd week I had a follow up appointment with a Neuro Opthamologist.? I told him that my condition seemed to improve.? He seemed immediately skeptical but chose to do a thorough exam.? He looked at the optic nerve and noticed that the swelling was gone but that was expected to happen.? I was given multiple eye tests and my vision returned,? I am back to 20/20 corrected with my glasses.? I do notice a very small amount of blurriness but it is minimal.?
My heart goes out to those of you who are struggling with this.? I wanted to share my story and hope maybe this path could help someone else.? I did react very early in the process and the Doctors are saying that may have helped the cause.??
Best of Luck,
-Joe
