ccLogRemote
Now that summer is here many people will be out mobile and many of them
will be logging on paper. I am in the process of cleaning up some issues in the ccLogRemote utility and looking for suggestions for improvements. If you are not aware of this utility it can be used to quickly add contacts to your log. Dean Davis, N7XG |
开云体育Hello Dean, ? I have used the ccLogRemote utility twice within the past 2 days. I love it but ran into a problem with the QSL message not populating. I am unable to find a slot for the QSL message on the remote dash board and when I loaded the qsls into the main logger it did not populate the information from a QSL message so I had to go back and populate them individually. Where did I go wrong. The rest of the program works great. Thanks Dwight - WF4H ? From: N7XGlogsupport@... [mailto:N7XGlogsupport@...]

The reason for not adding QSL message is that there is a lot of logic in the logger to fill in the text. When I wrote ccLogRemote I invisioned that people would load it onto their laptops and use it that way. What I have discovered is is not being used this way. At the last Eyeball i attended I sat in the airport on my way home and used the program to enter some of my eyeball contacts that I had written down on paper. I am also working on documentation and I will add some post upload steps. Dean Davis, N7XG -------- Original Message --------

Hi Dean,
Thanks for revisiting ccRemote.? I have some suggestions and problem reports. Suggestions: 1) Add a duplicate of the Equipment Used block from the Logger's? Contact Edit screen to the Common Information block in ccRemote.? Dropdowns for equipment would help with consistency.? Currently, there is no way to enter Power, and when I load remote contacts I always forget to change the default power so that I don't get 400W for mobile contacts. 2) Along with the above, maybe adding the Station Information block from the Contact Edit screen would be handy, too.? I think you said in a previous message that you thought that ccRemote would be used on a mobile or portable computer independently of the Logger.? I have never tried to do this, I always install the Logger to get ccRemote and use a backup file to load my personal data into the remote computer's database. 2) It would be nice to have a way of entering band/mode info for contacts made outside of our nets, say for Field Day or other events.? Maybe selecting Other for Net causes three text boxes or dropdowns to appear so that an event name may be entered for Net Name along with the associated band/mode.? Alternatively, if we could edit the Net table from within the Logger, we could add our own "nets" like "Field Day 20M SSB."? Selecting this from the Net dropdown would put "Field Day" into Net Name and 20M and SSB into their respective fields. 3) Whatever you do, don't alter the behavior of the contact-adding process.? Currently, when one starts from the Call Sign field, it is possible to navigate through the entire process using the keyboard alone, with the Return key stepping into or and/or skipping fields.? Then, when the Add Contact button is activated with Return, the fields are cleared and the cursor returns to the Call Sign field.? No reaching for the mouse.? Those of us who knew about character-based data entry screens from the old days appreciate this.? This knowledge appears to be disappearing from the computer world.? Kids today. Problems: 1) When using the Delete Remote Contacts button, or just manually deleting all existing contacts, I am never able to successfully add new contacts, even when closing and restarting ccRemote. The workaround that I found is to manually jam a dummy contact in the lower pane by simply filling basic data into the first displayed line.? I then double-click the line to bring up the Edit screen and click on the Save button.? Then, after adding one or more new contacts, I am able to delete the dummy and all is well. 2) Apparently, there are required fields in the Common Information pane. You might add asterisks to these.? Maybe for the contact info as well. 3) Just a quibble: if any of the terms like /YL are entered into the remarks field, the entire field is UPPER CASED.? To avoid this, I just edit the contact after adding, rather than use the code. 4) When loading the remote contacts into the Logger, there is no indication that the process has completed.??? A little popup might help. That's all I can think of now. Sorry it has taken so long to respond. I think I have most of the changes you requested. The one I am having problems with is item 2 regarding net name. I assume you are using the logger for a general logging program and have the need to add your own nets. Is this correct? Dean Davis, N7XG -------- Original Message --------
