Issue with Mode and State when Mobile

Dean,

Logger 5.04.01

After creating a station configuration with all fields filled, and then selecting it when starting to monitor a net, my "mode" (fixed, mobile, portable status) isn't recorded when a contact is logged.

Also, when choosing to monitor a net, there doesn't seem to be any place to enter the state if mobile other than to first create a new station configuration.

Am I missing something?

Jim,

Are you telling me if you have Mobile in your configuration it is coming out incorrect in the contact record?

Yes, you will need to create a unique station configuration. For example I have several configuration records for 40M:

Home 40M
Home 40M - NCS
Home 40M with K7OPQ

This was a big change in the current release.

Dean,

Yes. Even with "mobile" selected in the station configuration, the mode (fixed, mobile, portable) is coming out blank in logged contacts and it's blank on QSL cards printed for the contact. Same thing if I select the station configuration that I use when fixed or portable. This is my first use of Logger version 5.04.01.

The state was also coming out blank until I filled in a state in the station configuration file. Somehow this worked just fine before. Not a problem because I have it filled in now, just saying that something changed.

It sure would be a lot easier if the state(s) - up to four of them - could be filled in at the time monitoring starts. Then we'd need only a few station configurations... for fixed, mobile and portable.

Dean,

Why have different configuarations for different bands when the band isn't a field in the configuration file to begin with? Same for including your club call in the config file name. Why do that when the config file itself doesn't contain the club call. If the field isn't in the file, then selecting a config called "Home 40M with K7OPQ" can't select either the band or include the club call. There's no field either one in the dialog box that pops up when I create a configuration.

Jim,

I just tested the fixed, mobile, and portable setting in the config file and it is saving correctly in the contact record.

I have different equipment I use for 40 and 75.

Dean,

OK, but the fixed, mobile and portable status aren't saving correctly for me. The OpMode field is blank in my saved contacts.

Different config files for different equipment per band makes sense. My own is different from fixed to mobile and the different equipment part works fine.

I looked a bit more into the idea of "Home 40M with K7OPQ" that you're using and found fields for "ClubCall" and "SpecialEventCall" in the "StationConfig" database... but when I go to create a new profile the "ClubCall" and "SpecialEventCall" fields aren't visible for editing in a new profile. Maybe you're using that profile for different equipment also, but if that's all, what is the purpose of the ClubCall and SpecialEventCall fields in the Station config" database? Fine if none at present, but if there's supposed to be a current use, I can't edit them because I can't see them when creating a station profile.

?Maybe a more updated, or concise update to the instructions for creating the information for creating multiple user profiles ie my? Call, Club fixed, mobile, portable, more than home state, tripoint, ETC. i have never been able to figure how to create a user profile other than my fixed state.

Jim,

I have found and fixed the problem with the opmode field. If you are in a hurry I can send you a pre-release. It will also update your existing contacts with the missing data.

Thank you very much, Dean.

Not in any sort of hurry. I'll get it from your website after the holidays... or whenever it's available there.

Thanks again.

Dave,

The station configuration is pretty much simple and straight forward. Just keep in mind that you should have a seperate configuration record for each location, club, etc.

I will continue to work on the documentation.

Dean,

I don't get the blank opmode values for every mode, but the part that doesn't work (in 5.04.02) is if your mode is 'fixed'. That value doesn't come over into the contact (everything else does)

I go back and manually set the mode for fixed operations, since I use that field in my QSL design.

Overall, the changes in the latest version are a great improvement.

Frank,

This was identified earlier this week and I have it fixed. I have one more fix for special event stations and when complete I will send you an update. BTW, when you run this new version for the first time it will update the blank field with Fixed.
