Changes to Idaho Statewide 3116
Idaho Statewide 3116 Idaho Statewide 3116 has been disconnected from BrandMeister. The concept of statewide talk groups was to have in-state talk groups as calling channels and then move to in-state TAC channels for longer conversations. This is not how they are used so essentially are not used as in-state talk groups. The Idaho DMR Network has moved to the Texas model. Texas 3148 is a C-Bridge only talk group shared among the various C-Bridge owners in Texas for in-state DMR use. 3148 cannot be accessed via BrandMeister repeaters or HotSpots or from outside of Texas. Users must be within Texas on a Texas DMR repeater connected to one of the Texas C-Bridges that carry 3148. BrandMeister 3148 is not connected to Texas C-Bridge 3148. With this change Idaho 3116 Idaho Statewide will move from part time to full time access but will only be available to repeaters in Idaho that are connected to the Idaho DMR Network C-Bridge. This will restore the concept of statewide DMR use within the State of Idaho. As DMR grows in Idaho, new repeaters that desire to support Idaho Statewide 3116 should request connection to the Idaho DMR Network C-Bridge instead of BrandMeister. The result will be a DMR network across Idaho that supports DMR use within the state without interference from out of state stations, thereby promoting Idaho Statewide 3116 within the state. -- Chuck Robertson / N7CVR n7cvr.net System Owner C-Bridge Admin

SAR DMR (Oregon) InterOp Agreement with N7CVR DMR
Greetings, New Talk Group 1400 for Time Slot 1 has been added to N7CVR DMR Full Time Static. This is a C-Bridge to C-Bridge Talk Group not connected to BrandMeister. Suggest putting it in your code plug Receive Group List for Time Slot 1 and in your Scan List. As a reminder RX lists are Time Slot dependent so if your monitoring 1100 Primary on a single mode radio, program 1400 in a scan list so you can monitor it on Time Slot 1 as well as 1100 Primary on Time Slot 2. Background: The Oregon SAR DMR system was primarily established as an amateur radio search and rescue support system for central to western Oregon. They are directly affiliated with the PNW Digital system but run their own system. It is all commercial grade. It has been my desire to expand and build relationships with like-minded systems and establish Interoperability Talk Groups in the event conditions warrant. Of the (15) main Oregon SAR DMR repeaters they will initially carry 1400 full time on Livingston Mountain 442.950 + CC1 and Goat Mountain 442.750+ CC1. These cover the greater Portland / Vancouver areas. ID-SAR-DMR: Talk Group 1400 Time Slot 1 This will be known as Oregon SAR DMR to Idaho N7CVR DMR InterOp Outside of event use the talk group can be used for normal communications between our two systems without tying up PNW Regional 31771, Idaho 3116 or Oregon 3141. I want to thank Loren KB7APU for his support, cooperation and forward looking perspective on DMR. As a reminder OR SAR DMR does not publish their talk groups online but they are happy to send their list just by emailing them at info@... Enjoy this new InterOp Talk Group capability. 73, Chuck -- Chuck Robertson / N7CVR n7cvr.net System Owner C-Bridge Admin

Idaho Power Outage Squaw Butte
2
Good morning. Power outage at Squaw Butte overnight. It has been reported and Idaho Power is working the issue. Both the DMR and 900 repeaters remain up on battery backup but the network is down. Idaho Power shows outage start: 1:16AM We show and were notified the network was unreachable at 1:49AM which means network backup kept the network connections up for about 33 minutes assuming our outage times are correct. When I talked to Idaho Power they say estimated time of repair is 9:AM MST. This is also affecting the Idaho Power Horseshoe Bend service area. Cameras up there showed significant wind and snow at the building prior to the outage. Idaho Power: Outage Started:Dec 29, 1:16 AMCustomers Impacted:13Probable Cause:Unknown / otherStatus:Crew is dispatched (enroute) to eventEstimated Restoration:Dec 29, 9:00 AM Chuck -- Chuck Robertson / N7CVR n7cvr.net System Owner C-Bridge Admin

Power outage / SAR DMR / Ada County ACS / Nets
Good morning. We had a ~5 hour power outage at Squaw Butte last night. Both the DMR and 900 repeaters stayed up but we lost the Network connections after the UPS battery backup was exhausted. Next summer I plan to increase the UPS battery backup time to several hours. Cameras showed snow last night and light snow on the ground this morning. I am building a relationship with the SAR DMR C-Bridge group out of Oregon. Check out their web site at sardmr.com. As part of my communications with this group I have added the Oregon Net on TG-3141 on timed activation on Monday's at 8:00PM Idaho time. Last Monday ran about 30 minutes but I've provisioned the Oregon Statewide Talk Group 3141 for 60 minutes. Updates will be on the web site. Dennis W7DKL informed me about the Ada County ACS (AUXCOMM) program run out of the Ada County EOC. It is an interesting effort and I am posting part of his message here. "The ACS (Auxiliary Communications Service) is a small group of hams that support the Emergency Communications Center for Ada County Emergency Management. I am on the staff of Emergency Management and most of our staff have their ham licenses. Our group interfaces with other groups such as ARES, RACES, ACS, REACT, Red Cross, Idaho Office of Emergency Management and others. One of our main functions is to provide situational awareness in the event of an emergency or event." They have a net on Wednesday's at 11:00AM that sometimes includes DMR on Idaho Statewide Talk Group 3116. I have provisioned 30 minutes on Wednesday's for this Net on Time Slot 1 but have not listed it on the web site as they only use DMR occasionally and sometimes link it to Simplex. 73, Chuck -- Chuck Robertson / N7CVR n7cvr.net System Owner C-Bridge Admin

Update
Greetings, The DMR system on Squaw Butte and C-Bridge has been working great. I have two more Motorola DMR repeaters XPR8400 and SLR5700 to be installed in locations in the future, time and funds permitting. Lime Hill in Oregon and Picabo in Blaine County are the primary sites being looked at but something that covers the Payette area is also under consideration. Also looking at the ION site (Idaho / Oregon / Nevada) or possibly developing a new site somewhere. System Updates: New router with remote monitoring and maintenance has been added. 2nd WAN connection has been added with auto failover to keep network up. UPS installed to keep network equipment and second WAN connection up for at least an hour upon complete power outage. Repeater will stay up for days on battery backup. I am continuing to revamp radio programming template for most efficient use of DMR. Full Time - Time Slot 2 - Talk Group 1100 - Primary (RX call list includes 1100 / 1101 / 1102 / 1103) Full Time - Time Slot 2 - Talk Group 1101 - TAC-1 Full Time - Time Slot 2 - Talk Group 1102 - TAC-2 Full Time - Time Slot 2 - Talk Group 1103 - TAC-3 Time Slot 1 remains mostly allocated for out of area communication. Full Time - Time Slot 1 - Talk Group 31771 - PNW Digital wide area coverage from British Columbia to Southern California. Full Time - Time Slot 1 - Talk Group 31419 - PNW Digital I-84 coverage to Oregon Part Time (PTT access with 10-minute timer) - Time Slot 1 - Talk Group 3116 Idaho Statewide - C-Bridge and BrandMeister. Full Time - Time Slot 1 - Talk Group 31169 - Idaho TAC - C-Bridge and BrandMeister. Over the next year I would like to develop a strategy for using DMR data as it is part of the DMR protocol which is not widely used. It works sometimes but is not reliable between the different radios used on the system including Motorola / Hytera / Alinco. I don't use AnyTone radios anymore. Suggestions are encouraged. I have completed the initial procedure for using a digital OpenSpot 4 or 4 Pro to access the system via C-Bridge, available upon request. I have completed the initial procedure for using an analog ClearNode to access the system via C-Bridge, available upon request. Is there autopatch interest? I wouldn't think so in the age of cell phones but let me know what you think. If there is interest may put together a meeting presentation on DMR Spring 2025. Let me know if you would be interested in attending and what you'd like to see. I have been asked about a DMR Net and to my knowledge there isn't one in Idaho. I would be welcome to host one if there is sufficient user base interest and someone to run it that meets the objectives and mission of the N7CVR DMR system. Thanks for reading. Enjoy DMR. 73, Chuck -- Chuck Robertson / N7CVR n7cvr.net System Owner C-Bridge Admin

Brand Meister DMR Network
Most folks including me got started in DMR using Brand Meister. They have done an amazing job building and managing that network, reviving other DMR networks that couldn't survive and accommodating user and C-Bridge admin requests and also moderating Brand Meisters Telegram support, but things are changing. Corey N3FE one of the key administrators of BM just resigned for stated family reasons. The decentralization of DMR into regional C-Bridge networks with peering to one another is the trend and I believe will continue. Looking at the BM stats dashboard from today shows the ratio of Hotspots to Repeaters is nearly 3 to 1. This means BM is becoming known as the DMR hotspot network. There is nothing wrong with this as there is a clear desire for worldwide connections such as TG91, but that use should never be on an expensive repeater system tying up system resources and preventing local use. Here's an example of what a mess that makes. I use OpenSpot 4 Pro's for access into BM and other DMR Networks but only use them for remote access into N7CVR DMR when out of the coverage area of the system. This policy is enforced outside of testing locally to ensure all is working correctly before traveling. My ultimate goal is to disconnect all of my talk groups from BM so I can manage all use at the local level. We know what the best use policy for us in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest, rather than have peering and talk group policies dictated from back east or overseas. Enforcing discipline and best use policies is not punitive. It simply means a better DMR experience for everyone. That is my goal as the system owner, and I hope yours as well. 73, -- Chuck Robertson / N7CVR n7cvr.net System Owner C-Bridge Admin
