FQP Final Message 2
Everyone acknowledged and approve the route yesterday – so we’re good to go. I have printed/laminated a route card for each car (Kevin had to bow out – work – so there will only be two cars, total of 5 of us). I have again attached the route sheet. I added in Seminole’s info from last year in case we do want to go there Sunday. We’ll make that call then. I called Rodman Camp, they are open. I called Brian’s BBQ and have us reserved for 6 seats at 7:30pm. Some last minute reminders: Bring Sunscreen and a hat, a pair of gloves, wear comfortable clothing. I will have a small cooler in my car with water and Gatorade. I have a first aid kit and fire extinguisher. Bring your own snacks for the afternoon. Bring an HT with you and pre-program it on the simplex frequency on the route sheet. As always…..safety first, and have fun! Steve Rice, Steve Moore and John Szabo, meet me at the PD to park your cars and I’ll meet you there at 9:15 AM. Frank we’ll meet you at 9:30 at the Coffee Kup. Any questions??? Concerns?? Comments??? Speak now or forever hold yer piece! Steve Szabo

2022 N4DAB FQP Draft Route
Good Evening All, READ ALL OF THIS MESSAGE – READ ALL OF THE ATTACHMENTS – PLEASE!! FIRST….special thanks to Steve Moore, Frank Haas and John Szabo for helping me figure this thing out. After many hours of research, I think we have a winner. We have dropped the highly ineffective St. John’s and Clay Counties, added Volusia back in, plus less home time driving Saturday night. We also meet at the Coffee Cup and hour later Saturday morning. As in years past we can meet to park cars at the PD on Saturday morning and motor over to breakfast. I am showing the following cars/operators: Saturday – Car #1 – 20/40 SSB, 15CW - Steve S, John S., Steve M (meet at PD, we’ll go to breakfast in my car, will drop you off at PD when done Saturday night. We’ll work out Sun when we meet.). Car #2 – 10/15M SSB - Kevin and son (Kevin you can just meet us at the restaurant). Car #3- CW – Frank H. and Steve R. (However you want to work it out - Steve can park at PD, and drive over to breakfast with us and Frank can drop him off Sat night). Sunday – Car #1 – 20/40 SSB, 15CW - Steve S, John S., Steve M. Car #2 – 10/15M SSB - Kevin and son Car #3- CW – Frank H. and Steve R. I NEED YOU TO CONFIRM THE DAYS AND MODES YOU ARE OPERATING ASAP PLEASE!!!! I NEED YOU TO CONFIRM IF YOU ARE EATING DINNER ON SATURDAY NIGHT ASAP PLEASE!!!! Take a look at the attached travel agenda for the details, then look at the comparison to last year’s route. In summary, we operate at least 30 mins more, and drive 61 miles/60 minutes less! We do 6 counties total in two days, and get done at least an hour earlier Saturday, and 2 hours earlier Sunday. We can adjust as needed at each individual stop. I added some slop in there to accommodate. If a location is hot, we can stay later; if it sucks, we can leave earlier. I also added in the comparison and this year’s rules. New dinner location is Brian’s BBQ in DeLand; it comes highly recommended. I will need to know a firm count on who is coming so I can make a reservation. If anyone else wants to come join in or if you just want to meet for dinner, just let me know, we’ll work something out! I am sending this to both distribution groups for now until I am sure we have anyone that wants to be included added to the list. I need a response from you please! Let me know if this looks good, and we are all gonna’ be “happy” with it. When I get the responses, I will follow up with a final e-mail on Friday afternoon with some more tips/suggestions and a final route/staffing. 73! Steve WB4OMM

FQP 4
Good Morning!! I am still in Las Vegas with my family……will be back home next Tuesday. Time to start the 2022 FQP discussions……..so here’s where we stand. SSB car #1- Steve WB4OMM John KI4LOF, Steve WB0AOD These folks will be on 20/40m SSB……….15CW? SSB car #2- Kevin and his son These folks will be 10/15m SSB CW Car - Frank, Steve K8SR 20 and 40 CW We will not be doing the “usual” route on Saturday……..St John’s and Clay are a waste of time. We have a Flagler site identified, and I am looking at a Flagler, Putnam, Marion, Lake, and Volusia route. Basically, we start in Flagler and work our way back. Dinner in Volusia, closer to home. Sunday, Brevard and Seminole……..probably do the I-95 and Sanford locations like last year. Just stay longer in Brevard. I’m home tomorrow, I’ll get our draft itinerary out Wednesday night. I’m uploading our county activations to the FQP site now…….. Steve WB4OMM

Soooooooooooooooo......Are we ready????? 2
We are one week away from the 2022 FQP. Has the Saturday route been sorted out??? I've not spoken with Steve Szabo since the last club meeting. I took a road trip trying to piece together a new route but in the end it was no better than what we have already been doing. I reported that to Steve and I've not heard anything since. I have arranged to take Thursday and Friday OFF this coming week. Assuming there aren't any major problems with the CW radio setup, I'll have most of both days to collaborate/research/visit/drive any route considerations. During the Orlando Hamcation I bought a Wolf River Vertical which I hope to test drive during the 2 days of vacation I took. It sets up quickly and might be a better performer than the HamStick style antennas we have been using. If we have enough operators, it will be interesting to do side by side comparisons with the Hamstick on the car roof and the Wolf River vertical setup. What else needs doing besides the route? Who will the team include this year? Are we otherwise ready???? 73, Frank KB4T

Checking on everyone's plans... The phone station is almost ready to go. The radio, tuner, and laptop are all set up. The antenna is going to be a different story as I have to work Friday so this is going to leave little experimentation time. I'm planning on doing a Buddipole Vertical for both 20 and 40. I will have my entire kit with me so I can improvise on the fly. I will be using a Group 27 battery to power the station. This will also provide backup power for the laptop (through a 12vdc adapter). This will be my first time building, setting up and executing the phone station on my own... so I'm hoping for the best! Station Leaders
With regard to the station "leader" spots, I have "lead" the CW station in years past but I will gladly turn that duty over to someone else. There's not much to it actually. In fact, for maximum flexibility, it would be great if all 3 of the stations could be ambi-modal....that is, each of the 3 stations (4 possibly???) be able to operate EITHER Phone or CW. The operators of each station can decide as a group if they want to be phone or CW, move to the next stop, relieve or whatever. Flexibility is the key. Adaptability is a worthy objective. 73, Frank KB4T

Results - 2019 N4DAB FQP Event 4
This year’s FQP dates/times – Saturday, April 24th from noon to 8 PM EDT; and Sunday April 25th from 8AM to 6PM EDT. The summary of our last official “outing” in 2019 (last year – 2020 – don’t count since we operated from home). The 5-year analysis page really tell the tale! With some sunspots back, the numbers should improve this year no matter what. I also attached the 2019 Itinerary for your reading pleasure – as you can see, regardless of the talk last night, the longest “trek” between sites is to Rodman in Putnam Co at 55 mins (it’s actually a bit less the way we drive); the rest are 30 to 30 mins. The initial drive to St Johns and the homebound on Saturday night are the longest drives – over an hour each. I also attached the “rules” so you know what they are. As of right now, here is the list of “usual suspects” that are lined up for this year’s operation: CW: KB4T, W2EJG, KQ4R, WB4OMM PHONE: WB?AOD, KK4BFN, KI4LOF, KM4SBQ, KQ4R, WB4OMM I will start looking at the “leap frog” concept and get something out soon………great discussion last night! Enjoy the read!!!! 73! Steve WB4OMM

FQP Updates 2
Greetings, FQP victims!!!! Just what you were waiting for - another e-mail from me! BTW……Happy Easter! By way of introduction, please welcome Steve WB?AOD and Ed KG4ARN to our fine group of FQP radio nuts. N4DAB will be operating as a multi-operator, multi- transmitter, mixed-mode, low power entry class. Everyone who operates will need to send me an ADIF log file after the QSO party via e-mail. More on that later……… Attached is the FQP scheduling product example. We can literally have 8 operator on the air at the same time – 4 bands, two modes over an 18 hour operating period. We just can’t have the same mode on the same band simultaneously. So there are 144 “hours” of operating time available. Plenty to share! (While the schedule in arranges in on hour increments, obviously you can take “blocks” of hours). Just an observation, I worked state QSO parties last weekend and this weekend, and actually made some Qs on 15M. Remember, “we” are the hunted prize, so it’s OK for the bands to be, “long”. I am sending a blank schedule to Frank KB4T for the CW team (KB4T, W2EJG, KG4ARN, WB4OMM), and one to Kevin for the SSB Team (KK4BFN, N4GOA, KI4LOF, KM4SBQ, WB4OMM) to solicit requests and get the slots filled. Once completed, return them to me, I will consolidate into one, and send out to all. Steve WB?AOD doesn’t need to be on a schedule – since he is in Flagler (different county), he can work whatever hours/modes he wants! (A real “one-man show!). This will really be interesting – with better antennas and more available time (no freakin’ driving!) we should set our own record for QSOs this year. Plus, some “stuff” we won’t miss this year: Wasps, skeeters, snakes, rain, sunburn, heat/cold/wind, kids bouncing basketballs, bums grubbing cigarettes and change, closed parks, airboats, boat motor & motorcycle engine whine/noise, and Dollar Stores popping up at the last minute to detract from the fun. And Frank and Bob won’t have to buy lunch at a convenience store – with the rest of us having to watch them eat it – yuck!!! However, the Blackwater Inn is just not to be replaced! Hence, after this homebound adventure and once we are no longer under “house arrest”, we will be obliged to arrange for a suitable replacement activity. Enjoy Easter, don’t eat any rotten eggs, “see” you all soon……. 73! Steve WB4OMM

furthermore
As Frank Haas has pointed out, experience shows that it only takes 20/30 minutes to "Mine out" a band. It's not like Field Day or CQWW. It is more liesurly. My guess is that after things calm down, an adif file could be sent out to the Keeper of the LOG (Steverino). Just sayin' Bob W2EJG
