Keyboard PTT as alternative to footswitch

For phone contesting many ops use a foot switch for PTT to keep hands at the logging keyboard. But for various reasons some cannot use a foot switch. Maybe there¡¯s a way I haven¡¯t discovered yet, but how about a setting that makes some otherwise unused key (e.g. ctrl) act as a foot switch when connected to a rig that has adequate rig control.?

I use Node Red to interface to the radio (and AC Log). I have a Stream Deck XL with left bottom button programmed as MOX (PTT).?

Also have a foot and hand PTT wired in for maximum flexibility, depending on how I am operating.?

In the 10m test this past weekend one of our guys prototyped a PTT on a board with a piano hinge pressing a pair of buttons at each side, wired in parallel. The keyboard sat on that board and basically provided another bar south of the space bar. It worked ok but I thought why not just use a key on the keyboard that¡¯s already there?

You can program the send in your function keys. For WW for example I have $ # ....t (other stations call 5nn 4) Go to tx settings for complete list. Voice can also be done using .wav files. There is also an option to insert increasing S/N (i.e. SS). I also program in my Call for when S & P

Hi All,

In addition to programing F keys to play recorded rig audio (Settings > Transmit > Phone Setup), you can press Ctrl + Shift + A to toggle your rig from transmit to receive:

Enjoy!

Or you could use VOX as an option.? I'm still fine tuning my VOX setup on my IC-7300.

I do know about programming F keys to do the exchange. But I don't see a way to get the F key to just toggle TX/RX like a PTT or foot switch would, with the op speaking rather than using recordings.

I did not know about ctl-shft-A that Scott pointed out. That's the idea.... but a three key sequence like that does not work so well as a foot switch substitute in a fast paced run.

If we could assign that to an F key, that would work well. Better yet I think would be assign it to alt-space or ctl-space or shift space. Something closer to where my hands are already.

Ah, now this gets close to perfect: I coded RI:TX; on F9 and RI:RX; on F10. Those are commands for Elecraft K2 to switch to TX then back to RX. It works!
