N3FJP Software Announcement - January 2006
开云体育Hi?Everyone!
?
Kimberly and?I?have?some?announcements and
news?that we would like to share with you.
? New versions?of all of our logging?programs are now available! ?
We have had many requests for the addition of WinKey, and it is now
supported by our software.? WinKey is a nifty device that will send CW
without relying on the timing of your PC's processor.? It also allows for
more user customized CW settings.? For more details on WinKey, please visit
.
?
Other Contest Software Upgrades:
?
In addition to WinKey, we have?added the ability to easily archive
contest logs for later retrieval.? We've also added a feature enabling
the?addition of?a ! to the CW string to automatically log
the?contact.? For example, if I set the F3 string to: !TU DE
N3FJP, the contact will be logged as soon as I press F3.? This
feature will work with any of the F keys.
?
K7RE RTTY has now?been added to the Field Day programs.? For more
details on K7RE RTTY, please visit: .
?
Amateur Contact Log 2.9 is now available!
?
In addition to adding WinKey to AC Log, we've also added code so that AC
Log creates a permanent backup of your log file once each month
automatically.? These are the only two changes to AC Log.? If the
WinKey feature is not important to you, and you backup your log file regularly,
it is fine to continue with version 2.8.?
?
The "AC Log Ready" calldata?has been?updated for January,
2006.?You can download this database?freely from the AC Log
page at .? This database is updated
every 6 months for your convenience.
?
Package Upgrade
Information:
? If you have registered one or more individual programs and would like to upgrade to N3FJP's Software Package ($39) or N3FJP's Software Package and CD ($49) for full use of all our Amateur Radio software, we would be glad to apply the amount that you have registered so far as a credit towards that purchase. Please send us an e-mail directly at snkdavis@..., and we'll let you know your balance. ? N3FJP's Software Package now includes over 50 programs for contesting,?general logging, upgrading your license and other Amateur Radio related applications. In addition to full use of all these programs, registered package customers are also entitled to receive passwords for any new software that is added to the package and free upgrades to existing programs. ?
Who's On The Air Database
?
DX spotting is great.? We are kept up to date on the stations that are
being heard in any given area, and many of us have added to our DX totals
and?increased our contest results by using DX spotting.
?
But DX spotting has its limitations.??Mainly,?we only become
aware of the stations that someone takes the time to spot.? Many stations
that might be of interest to us are never posted.? This means that there is
not a way to find most of the stations that are on the air at any given
time.
?
Now, imagine an Internet database of all active stations.?
Suppose?our software was?configured (optionally of course) to upload
the following information to a web database each time a user either logged a
contact or changed band (or frequency):
?
Call, Country, State, County, Grid, Band, Frequency, Lat, Long, Time
?
Here are just some of the applications:
?
-? You need County "X".? You can simply query the web page to see
who is on from that county and where they are operating (the same applies for
states, countries, grids, or anything you want to track).? A page could be
set up to display queries by band, etc.as well.
?
-? You haven't caught up with your friend _____ in a while.?
Simply do a query to see if he is on the air.
?
-? You have a schedule, but the frequency you planned to use is
occupied.? Simply check the website to see where the station you planned to
contact is waiting for you.
?
-? You can find that needed multiplier for the contest you are
currently operating.
?
-? Is 10 Meters really dead?? Query the database for a list of
who is on the band and where they are listening/operating.
?
-? Lots of cool displays and maps could be developed.
?
I am?not a web guru, and at the moment this project is only a brain
storm.? For this project to move forward, we need some guys with web
experience (and probably MySQL experience)?to join us.
?
A separate reflector has been set up for this project.? If you have
web experience and can help, please subscribe by sending a blank e-mail
to:
?
?
?
By the way, this is not an "N3FJP Software" project.? It is just a
group of hams who are interested in working together to enhance the hobby.
? As always, thanks so much for your kind words, suggestions and spreading
the word about our software.? We really appreciate it!
