Transmitting audio via Function keys
I've been using the MFJ Voice Keyer forever.? I recently decided I want to switch to using the Function keys with N1MM+.?
I have successfully recorded, placed the recordings in the right folder, and they play back wonderfully, but they play back only and don't key the rig.?
?
What do I need to do to make the Function keys key up the rig and play it back over the air?
?
Thanks

You need to configure PTT your rig automatically, use VOX on the radio, or press a footswitch plugged into your rig.

开云体育Tnx Mike. ? Wilson, the answer may depend on what you are using for the sound card. If you are using a radio codec in the radio, let us know. ? John, K3CT ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of VE9AA - Mike via groups.io

开云体育Wilson, It depends on the radio model and how the user configured our software. What radio are you using? ? John, K3CT ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Wilson Hines via groups.io

If you are using a modern PC and a modern rig and PC with?USB cabling for both CAT and rig's built-in soundcard, choosing "PTT via Radio Command SSB Mode" is very straightforward (Configure->Rigs menu). If you have an older PC with serial port or parallel port available, and an?adapter to PTT-on-ground levels, "Hardware" PTT via either? LPT and Serial port PTT are still options. Turning VOX on in the rig is also possible but the least precise. Tim N3QE On Mon, Mar 31, 2025 at 10:18?AM Wilson Hines via <wilsonhines=[email protected]> wrote:

开云体育See: ? ? There is no need to have Use Hardware and Software PTT checked. ? You need to configure Logger+ Audio correctly. ? The newer versions of Windows block applications from using the MIC. You may need to allow N1MM Logger to use the MIC if you want to record on the fly. ? John, K3CT ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Wilson Hines via groups.io

There are many ways to accomplish the goal.? I guess I am a dinosaur but don't seem to have many of the complicated issues (or configurations) that some do.
My computer is (essentially) in the middle of my mic cord.
?
MIC/HEADSET ->plugged (in) to computer sound card > coming (out ) of computer sound car > plugged into mic connector on front of radio.(doesn't matter this way what the radio is)

I can record messages on the fly, and can use the footswitch if I so choose, and also use PTT to key the radio on prerecorded messages (F-keys) that are saved on the computer.
?
It's so easy, even >I< could do it.

You're the 2nd person in 2 days to want to hear yourself out of your computer speakers.? I won't pretend to understand.
?
In almost all cases, contesters use headphones.? If they want to hear the CW or SSB feedback in their ears, they'll turn on the monitor feature built into pretty much every modern radio.

For one offs, if I am busy and have family wander into the shack mid-contest and I have a pileup going and they're wondering why I am not paying any/much attention to them,(or I just want them to hear what I am hearing) what I'll do is pull the headphone jack ever-so-slightly out of the front of the radio, v-e-r-y _ c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y, and I can usually get it so I have some audio in my headphones and some audio out of the rigs speaker.
?
It's not a permanent solution.? The Y-connector is the better option for guests to listen. Otherwise, join the 99%(?) of other contesters and get some good heaphones, hi :-)
