N?GSG DMR Contact Manager Version 2.66D Release to Address AnyTone DCF Load Errors in the AT-D878UV and other Newer Models

All,

We just released a minor update, 2.66D, that addresses a newly-discovered issue within AnyTone's DCF files.

AnyTone originally accommodated Contact Manager by adding the ability to write "data conversion files" within all versions of their CPS. This is necessary because the actual file formats for individual AnyTone models vary widely, so the DCF file allows us to deal with these with minimal pain. All DCFs employ the same file format as written by AnyTone AT-D868UV CPS 1.21.

There are a couple of catches to this approach:

1. Specific features for radios past the original AT-D868UV may not be supported in the DCF format, although it's theoretically possible.
2. The AT-D868 supports "only" 160,000 contacts, so the DCF file was originally limited in the same way within Contact Manager. Right now the DMR user registration database is reporting 160,350 records.

I've received reports of Contact Manager failing to load DCFs from AT-D878UV radios. These codeplugs contained more than the allotted 160,000 records originally defined by the limits of the AT-D868.

Our solution to this approach is simple. Version 2.66D opens up the maximum contact limit to more than 400,000 records for AnyTone radios.

Does this mean that you can now load 400,000 contacts into your trusty AT-D868UV? No! If you attempt to import more than 160,000 records into a codeplug for this older model, Contact Manager will happily oblige you. You can save the DCF with no problems. But loading this DCF codeplug into the wrong AnyTone CPS version (such as for the 868) will likely crash the CPS beyond your wildest dreams.

Be very cognizant of this limitation. Because the DCF format is "universal" for AnyTone models, there is no way that Contact Manager can know (at least at this point) what CPS and radio you are working with. This same advice is true for any radios made by AnyTone but branded differently (Alinco, BTECH, and so forth).

You can enjoy the enhanced contact capability by downloading version 2.66D from our website at

Thanks to the hams who helped identify this problem. As always, thanks for your support!

Best,
Tom
