gold simulation

This isn't really on topic, but I wasn't satisfied with any of the existing solutions for rendering the gold trace on the diaphragm in my capsule visualization, so I rigged up my own model. Here it is under changing light conditions! Finally, some use for all those years in computer graphics...

Its beautiful!

Best Regards,

Jules

Thanks Jules! Here's another angle. I think it captures all of the color changes of gold pretty well...

You would not believe how slow this is. Rendering time with the gold sim: 3m40s. Rendering time without the gold sim (everything else identical except the gold is opaque): 12s. Same samples per pixel and noise level.

Finished...ish? I keep getting stuck adding more detail when I'm doing stuff for render. If you zoom in on the side profile, you can see the lines from the lathe.

Can't help to find the "blue" rings are way too tame and actually look like grey...

Grey is good.?? It is an understated color and appears as if you do not need fancy colors to look good.? I think it works - different from the rest, yet subdued, subtle and confident.?? JHR

Ari,
Did you opt to use all M1.4 screws?

Yeah, I might move the ring screw holes out just to Make sure there's enough support for the diaphragm
