Looking for Hammarlund Super-Pro SP-10

Hi,

I am looking for Hammarlund Super-Pro SP-10 manual and full-size schematic.

Mark K7MD

Mark,

Have you tried BAMA yet?? If not ... google "BAMA manual" (without the quotes).? If yes, and they don't have the manual, then when you do find it, you should upload it there.? In either case, bookmark BAMA or tattoo it inside your eyelids.? Or both. ?:)

The only SP-10 schematics I have seen were pretty poor, I'll look through my stuff when I get home to see what I have, the SP-100 is pretty close I believe, except for the output tube section.

Mark,?
I didn't find a schematic, but check out this info from?Henry Rogers WA7YBS/WHRM.
?

1935 - SPA (SP-10)?- June 29, 1935 Order Number 10932-NY-35 issued for Hammarlund SPA Super-Pro Receiver for the Signal Corps US Army. SPA is identical
?????????????????????????????????? to the SP-10 except for the installation of a data plate on the front panel. It's likely that these receivers were delivered before the official March 1936
?????????????????????????????????? introduction presented in QST magazine that month.

1936 - SP-10?- Uses all large-pin glass tubes, has separate RF, IF and AF Gain controls along with Tone control, no pointers on knobs
???????????????????????? Variable coupling on Detector and AVC transformers
???????????????????????? Both audio transformers are potted units
???????????????????????? Audio output transformer was probably an 8 ohm Z output on?all?receivers
???????????????????????? Resistors may have been added to create a 600 ohm output Z on?some?receivers
???????????????????????? Some receivers may have had a standard phone jack audio output on front panel
???????????????????????? Aluminum front panel .187" thickness, engraved nomenclature
???????????????????????? Paper-wax capacitors are usually Aerovox brand, sometimes intermixed with Cornell-Dubilier brand????????????????????????
???????????????????????? Spacing rods in RF tuning unit are brass????????????????????????
???????????????????????? Non-illuminated Tuning Meter measured total IF amplifier current
???????????????????????? S-version introduced in June 1936 tunes 1.2 to 40 MC
???????????????????????? Bias series resistor string modified - 600 ohm resistor replaced with 2-300 ohm, allowed moving detector input amp grid connection
???????????????????????? to junction which slightly increased bias voltage
???????????????????????? BFO Plate Load resistor changed from 5K to 50K (may be parts list error as all known examples use 50K)
???????????????????????? BFO Grid capacitor (100pf) changed from grid to ground connection to parallel with grid leak resistor connection, (possible schematic error)
???????????????????????? Tone control eliminated in late production

Hi Mark,? Yes, I contacted Henry. We had a nice exchange about this Super Pro.. It is the early SP-10, coke bottle tubes, 3-42's in the audio section. we kind of walked through the list you described above

Picked it up at an estate auction for a couple bucks. No surprise that it was a critter castle at one time,, however most damage is confined to a portion of the chassis and to the rf deck covers. Ive disassembled a bit so far and am hopeful.. The PS doghouse will need to be taken down to the bare chassis. The iron's good though. Only mystery will be what to use in place of the field coil.

Anyway, thank you for contributing. -Mark K7MD

Looking at a couple of old radio schematics, the field coil of a Truetone D-727 is shown as 300 ohms/ A Emerson 117 is shown as 1050 ohms. Field coil speakers are often replaced with power resistors, but a choke of a few henrys would probably be better.

Most of the time, a resistor, or a choke can be added to replace it
