Something I would like to share with you all. It may have been shared before but I didn’t see it. This is for an OLD sticky free mat. I cleaned my mat to the point that there was absolutely no stick left on it. I thought about it for a couple of weeks trying to figure out what I would do.. nothing came to mind. Then I had a project to cut so I had to do something. I used the lid of a ‘banker box’ lined with parchment paper, laid my fabric down, right side down and carefully sprayed the back lightly with TSA (505) and then stuck my fabric to the mat. It worked beautifully. I used my rotary wheel to cut out the project. I haven’t tried the fabric knife. Don’t use a sticky mat… the fabric sticks to tightly. Ask me how I know? There’s also a bonus. If you don’t leave your pieces laying around too long, there is enough sticky on them to hold them in place to machine applique them on. I don’t think it would take the crumpling of hand applique but I suppose it wouldn’t hurt. Using this method, you don’t get TSA on the sides of your mat. Eventually the mat gets sticky and you may not need to spray some of your fabrics. Forgot to mention that my fabric has ‘stiffener’ on it to give it some body. I hope this helps all the machine embroiderers. The ‘O” in my Love Gnome Saga… This saga starts with this cute little free SVG file - Love Gnome from Tracy at - https://mainroaddigitalcreations.com/valentine-gnome-free-svg/ A little background - I am learning to use my Brother Scan N Cut machine as well as teaching myself how to digitize for Applique. This seemed like a good design to practice on. SEW… when I cut it out the first time, the inside of the ‘O’ was nonexistent and didn’t have a cut line. Eventually, I digitized the inside of it with a different colour and, VOILA, I was able to cut it. But the program now did it twice. Fortunately, I noticed that the line was a bit thicker than the others and was able to delete one of those outlines. I was a happy camper and trotted off to my sewing machine to stitch out the design… You’re not going to believe this… I thought I had conquered the pesky letter “O” but oh no it was still to haunt me twice more. I was carefully trying to pull off the ‘Wonder Under’ paper and the static was winning. I flicked and flicked again and discovered that I still had the paper in my hand and the fabric ‘O’ was somewhere in the waste basket with a thousand other pieces of white paper and fabric scraps. Oh, did I mention that that little ‘O’ was white too. Yuck… I ploughed through it all but couldn’t find it for the life of me. Back to SNC to cut another ‘O’. It only took a couple of minutes to do that. Back to my Gnome Applique and placed my little ‘O’ precisely within the placement lines… Voile… Success… Not on your life… The Blanket stitch stitched perfectly around the outer edge and jumped to stitch around the inner part.. OMG… the stitches faced the hole instead of on the fabric. SSSHHHH…oot. Went back to the original design and fixed that. Back to stitch the decoration hearts on my Gnome’s hat.. Ah… not again… I had his hat pulled down over his nose. I’ve had it now, too tired but won’t give up… Back to the drawing board and fix everything and star it all over again… I have my fingers crossed that all will work out perfectly this time. Next morning (today) I finished off my Mug Rug as a valentine’s gift for hubby – it will be our 43rd one together – and am very happy with him and the results…. Morals of the saga are..
