Spindle Control
开云体育Quick little survey on what everyone has on their machine for spindle control. ? 1. Do you have a VFD on a 3 phase motor for Lathe or Mill. ? 2. Does the CNC controller drive the spindle or do you set the speed and ON/OFF manually? ? Just curious John ? ? "ELS! I have a VFD controlled spindle on my router and this is controlled via my gcode. Cheers Calum On 14 June 2021 at 07:49 John Dammeyer <johnd@...> wrote:

开云体育I’ve never tried. ? But, I think that you might need an in-band spindle for power tapping. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of John Dammeyer

开云体育I believe you definitely need an encoder on the spindle itself or toothed belt and use encoder on motor if it has one.? Power tapping has to be closed loop. ? John ? ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Andy Wander

开云体育John, I'm using G-code through Mach 3 to drive an on-off relay for my Sherline spindle, and set the speed manually. Thayer On 6/13/21 3:49 PM, John Dammeyer

John, Running Mach3 on both, I have a VFD on the Router and the Lathe. I set the on/off and speed manually on the lathe, the Router on/off is with code. Both are Huanyang VFD's, I used to be able to control speed of the Router via RS485, but that stopped working awhile ago. So I just do it manually. Never could get the Lathe RS485 going. Steve

Manual control of speed, direction and on/off on both lathe and mill. I do most of my work using wizards and MDI. Only go to CAM for complex shapes. I also write Gcode programs for some things such as using the A axis where I can't be bothered to find a CAM program that does what I want. My machining is a hobby not work and tool changing is also manual so?I am under no time pressure or have any need to leave machines running unaided so the need for controlling the spindle with Gcode has never been something I felt I needed.
