Shuttle Express
开云体育I think I may have mucked up a MACH3 ?setting or maybe it's a USB communications issue. ? Now when I jog any of the axis when the larger dial returns to the detented position the jog continues at the lowest level.? To stop if moving I have to move in the other direction. ? I don't believe it's mechanical because when I bring up the config dialog it's clear that as the outer dial is moved the number changes from 0 to a value.? When I let go of the dial it returns to zero but the axis keeps moving at the slow jog rate. ?? ? In other works the Shuttle Express has reported the outer dial is back to 0 but MACH3 continues to jog the axis. ? What have I done?? What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks John |
开云体育I would switch to Linux CNC myself, or borrow another shuttle from a friend and try that…? ? ? Sent from my Atari 2600 Regards, -Joemac ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of John Dammeyer

开云体育Or bring mine over to your place to see if it works on yours… ? As for the LinuxCNC side of things I did find this: ? I should plug the shuttle express into the Pi4 and see if Linux 'discovers' it. ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Joe Macmurchie

Save a copy of the Mach3 folder called Mach3_old or something similar. Reinstall Mach3 and copy over the .XML files and any changed screen sets to the new installation. See if that now works correctly. For some reason I have had to do this a number of times with Mach3, it seems to shut down when writing to its files sometimes (just a guess) and screws itself up. It may be an old slow laptop problem as this is what I use to run it.

开云体育Hi Martin, Thanks. I do know it's not the hardware.? I moved it over to a LinuxCNC system running on a Pi4 1Gb and although the interface has issues, as shown on the MACH3 CONFIG screen the outer ring always returns to zero and on LinuxCNC moves the axis without any issue and no crawling along. ? I do not want to go through the process of re-installing MACH to fix this.? To me that's silly.? Who's to say I don't have to do that once a week because there's something else wrong.? That's like saying when it doesn't work just do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to fix it.? WIN-XP applications don't need re-installation to make them work. ? The system is a WIN-XP with USB Smooth Stepper, PMDX-125 and the ShuttleExpress running a JGRO CNC router with stepper motors, relay controlled router power.? Pretty simple system. ? IIRC, it's done this once before but either the problem went away or I did something to fix it. ?I have not had to re-install MACH. ? John ? ? 开云体育Quick update on this. Moved it into the lab where my experimental Pi4 1Gb LinuxCNC is living.? Unfortunately not nearly as easy as in MACH to attach a Shuttle Express. ? Linux appears to be exhibiting the same Serial Mouse bug that plagued WIN-XP all the way up to WIN7.? Not sure about WIN-8 to WIN-10.? The bug is when a serial device (either on serial port or USB configured as a serial device) sends characters to Windows while it's booting.? At that point Windows thinks it's a mouse and serial data from say a weigh scale or temperature monitoring device drives the screen mouse pointer all over the place.? Eventually a Registry location was found or set up to prevent Windows from using the device as a mouse.? But considering it was years since an actual serial mouse was used on a serial port it's sad it took so long. ? Anyway, Linux identifies the Shuttle Express as a Human Interface Device and then allows it to move the mouse.? So turn the spring loaded outer wheel and if you have the mouse on an editor the pages scroll past.? There is a program to download and? run that prevents that but it took some looking. ? Next LinuxCNC also was not able to use the inner wheel for some reason.? And worse, once a G-Code program was run the entire unit stopped working.? Almost as if it was left in MDI mode.? As yet I've not had a response on the EMC group to address any of those issues.? ? So I unplugged the Shuttle Express from the Pi4, brought it back into the shop and plugged it into the small USB 1.0 hub I have dangling out the front for USB memory drives.? For installing G-Code.? A reboot of MACH3 because the Shuttle Express had just been discovered on the new USB input and bingo! ?The unit works the way it's supposed to and doesn't crawl along when the spring loaded outer wheel is released. ? No re-install of MACH was required.? No idea why using the USB 1.0 Hub would work while plugging into the back of the PC USB 2.0 hubs did not.? Very peculiar.? ?
