NEW Steel 5axis CNC 3040 machine

Hello,
I am now the owner of this 5 axis mill from?Chinacnczone Store. I was initially going to get it with MACH3, the shop persuaded me to purchase it with Easycnc as a alternative controller software. This has been a retrograde purchase and I am looking to change to Mach3 which I have used for years. The issue is that I cannot get any technical, configuration info on this controller.?

Has anyone beeen here? The existing I/O box is a genuine B
"Black Box" it is black, works, no manufacturers or Part number identification.?
In fairness it does work. But I wish to add control relays and have no info as how to, or configure the logic/PLC type control.

Has anyone been here before??
Regards
Graham

Why don't you look at the Openbuilds controller?

Sorry, The Openbuilds controller is a 4-Axis Blackbox controller.

And it is only 4-Axis

Thanks for reply. The fustrating issue is the motion, control box is literally a black box. Unlabeled, no part number. To replace it is a major, the drives are all servo/encoder F/B and TCPIP cable connector.
If I have to then I will but thats about Plan X

Hi Graham,
USB and Ethernec CNC controller PoKeys57CNC could be right solution for you:

It can do up to 8 axis, has 2 relays outputs and much more. You can extend your output needs by adding Porelay8 - CAN relay:

It is conencted over CAN bus, so long wires aren't problem.

If you have some open questions, please open support ticket on support.poscope.com

It all depends on the objectives. If the quality of the motion control is a priority I would consider Mach4, UCCNC or LinuxCNC.? Upgrading to closed loop steppers may be a good thing.

Can you send a picture of the controller? ? If it is jus a black box; maybe pop the cover and take a picture?

Oh ??, if it is servo controlled that is definitely different. ?Who was the vendor you purchased it from?

Purchased from?
When I asked for wiring diagrams, configuration and technical info just have not delivered.?

Annoying issue is they recommended the EASYCNC control software. I preferred Mach3 but took their advice.

The ability to use VBA or Brains for simple add ons would of made my changes easy. No data or info on the EASYCNC makes it impossible.
I have removed and opened the "Black Box". No ID or manufactures ID.

Have taken photos? how can I add them so you can see??

Graham

Please take a picture of the machine as well.? ?Email: timgs@...

I cannot promise anything but I can at least take a look; maybe point you in the right direction.

BTW, I think you do have to realize that your CNC 3040 may not end up being as good a deal as you thought.? The Chinese are famous for copying (bugs and all) existing products without the background engineering in place to provide support.? So they have a black box from somewhere that came from somewhere that was copied from somewhere.

?

Here’s an example of this sort of issue and it’s caused a lot of frustration for the original designer who put it all out as open source including 2D drawings.? Even the CAD files were available for an extra charge.

?

That is an unlicensed copy of this project and the 2D and CAD drawings are no longer available because of the copying.

?

What people buying it may not realize is the Chinese copy is an open loop version without encoders and instead has a couple of electric brakes on it to keep it from slipping without power connected.? That means only the AR2 software will run and upgrading it to AR3 or AR4 is a lot of work.? About as much as just buying the original kit from Chris Annin.? And it’s hard to know how good the Chinese mechanicals are anyway.

?

So here we have a fantastic project with a designer who was trying to bring low cost robotic arms to a place where the average person can play (more than the Radio Shack Armatron)? and it gets poorly copied and the cost to bring it to latest standards costs and the labour now has to be done anyway.

?

I think in the case of your mill your best option is to look at one of the North American Suppliers who create ‘black boxes’ compatible with MACH3/4 and swallow the money paid to the Chinese for the fake as a learned lesson.? At least you have the mechanicals.

Photos loaded into site.

Hi John,
Yes thats a increasing likely hood. In some fairness the mechanical part of the mill appears to be competantly made. The electronics selection is also sensible, Servo's with encoder feed back. harmonic gearboxes.?

The issues is getting information. Operator level and Gcode info was extracted after several emails.
The solid model files were only 1/2 provided. All the sheetmetal parts BUT no chassis and 4/5 axis files.

Then when I asked for configuration, wiring diagrams, and setup data,? ? BIG silence.!!!
Asked for info on motion contrller, silence. This is notable as has no manufactures info, or Model #.

Regret not taking the mach option, Now silence when I ask for Mach Drivers. Mach have always made the technical, Brains, VBA info available.

So I am tracing , measuring etc. Will draw my own Digital Twin.

If another has been down the same road would appreciate hearing from him.

Regards
Graham
