I think I am too old to switch to Mach4. What i am mainly trying
to do is to get the router working so well that others can use it
without breaking expensive bits or worse. I will get a better idea
on my prognosis in maybe a week and by then should have enough
experience with the changes i have made and whether i really need
to switch to make the machine more reliable.
I changed the kernal speed as suggested and looked for sticky
keys which was off.
but the main thing I did was to change to continuous jogging
mode. I hadn't realized that in continuous you can access
incremental and high speed continuous override with shift and
control ? so i can set a really slow jog speed and switch to
incremental very small step and if i know everything is clear take
my chances with high speed continuous.
i also changed the way i set the machine at home which for most
of my programs is? x0 y0 z0 a0
i was using a block clamped in the stock holder and setting
references on the sides of the block this meant i needed to jog
around the block to get to the x and y setting sides that is when
i broke cutters when the axis moved with no keys pressed. now i am
referencing a drilled hole in the top of the block and at z0 so i
don't have to risk destroying the cutter.
when the spindle is running the out of control cutter can do
damage but there is usually time to estop and i am now running
with hand on estop all the time. when setting up the spindle was
not running so instead of just destroying a wooden block it
snapped the cutter before i could hit estop. real fun to watch a
$20 plus dollar cutter you just put in new get slowly broken off.
if i really do need to change to Mach4 is there anyone i could
hire to modify screens add macros and other stuff working from my
xml files and screens?
At this point I have just one problem. I want to prove that
mach4 will work for me and maybe take the transition slowly
since i have a few customizations that i really like.
When I try configure control motor all the entry boxes are
greyed out but i must have pins right and checked boxes to use
the axis because they move when i run a gcode.
i am going to look one more time for something that might not
be checked
if you have any places to look in mach4 config or ESS config
or any place out that might be responsible for the motor
setting page to not think there are motors? again they move
under program control.

Spencer,
I need to be at my desk for a bit later today and I am more
than happy to go over this with you.and get it setup. I know
you have been doing this for a long time and I know you
shouldn't have any trouble. I would like to know if we can
do anything to make it better.
Thanks
Brian

not see anything about hotkeys but the youtube looks
promising.Maybe i missed another doc. Can not do many
youtubes at high res with our viasat rip off. Still need to
know why motor settings csn not be entered

Subject: [MachCNC] mach 4 and ess
I spent hours trying to get mach4 to work with ess. Boy is the configuration a confusing mess.
two things i just can't get to work but i am sure there will be others once i test my lube control and other things.
i think i can live without my customizations at least for a while but i just wanted to see if mach4 is really any better and worth the effort.
I CAN NOT GET MOTOR TUNING TO WORK. i have all pins assigned etc and i can run a test gcode but the steps are totally wrong and need to be changed. in the appropriate place (something like config control motors) i have the familiar motor tuning screen similar to mach3. however the steps speed and accel are greyed out and i can not enter anything. by default all motor checkboxes were checked and i unchecked and checked until i was exhausted. nothing i could do would let me enter the values.
also i can not find anywhere where hotkeys are assigned. i found a tutorial you tube by a woman who sounds very authoritative so i think i might have found the answer but i have viasat internet and videos are blurry pixels at anything other than high res which means i have to wait weeks for vids to load. this is why i seriously shy away from youtube.
we are in the list for starlink and hope to get it soon so we will be in the 20th or is that 21st century like everyone else.
with all the fabulous improvements WTF can't there be a downloadable pdf worth shit? i have a great manual for mach3 and did not have many problems installing or using it other than a few here and there and the bugs which have prompted me to try mach4.
so maybe hotkeys and other kule keyboard stuff will be explained buy the very confident sounding woman if i live long enough to download the high res video
however trying to find out why motor tuning is greyed out could take me into the next century trying to find the answer.
