help with customizations ?

I have been using mach3 for many years. i am recently having strange behavior occasionally and breaking tools. just goes wacky now and then so i have to keep my hand on estop all the time and can not leave the machine.? there are no problems mechanical or electrical that i can find. i am using a smooth stepper.

questions, will smooth stepper ethernet work fine with mach 4 windows 10?

i wrote custom screens and macros and i understand these will have to be rewritten for mach 4. i don't have the patience to learn all this new stuff. i am currently taking strong drugs for chemotherapy and am more foggy than usual.

is there anyone i can hire to duplicate my custom screens for mach4 and also the macros? i can try mach4 and maybe i don't really needs this but i am trying to figure out my options

i have a job of 4000 parts to make as soon as possible and would prefer to not have to baby the machine the whole time.

Mach4 with the ESS is a lot less buggy than Mach3, in my experience.

If I had to give a number, I would say Mach4 has maybe 5% as many bugs as Mach2.

I much prefer Mach4, it's much easier to customize.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with Mach 3 and almost tore my hair out trying to figure out what the problem was. I checked everything mechanical to no avail. Someone suggested copying the existing XML file and then wipe out and reload Mach3, then load save XML file. It worked for me. You can save your special screen set and reload it into Mach 3 as well.

What is your machine doing? Are you running faster then before? Maybe a loose wire? I have used Mach 3 sense it was master CNC and can’t see a reason to change. If your having problem with you machine with Mach 3 it is reasonable to believe the same will be true with mach4.

the most annoying thing is that when jogging with the keyboard i use small steps with a single click of the hotkey for an axis and use shift to do a fast move. not very often but occasionally the machine just runs totallyout of control in the jog direction and breaks a carbide bit. i have changed keyboards and am pretty sure it is not a sticky key. will try yet another one.

i have a couple of? pendants but nothing great. maybe i should resurrect one of them including one that i made in arduino that sends keyboard commands to the pc and can not stick.

or is there a really good simple pendant that will get my jogging under control?

i am installing mach4 and if i make a few changes there is really little customization i? need.

I have the same problem since I fitted ESS a month or two ago to my Mach3
setup. It happens when I use the high speed jog (Shift Up,Down, Left,
Right,PgUp, PgDn). So far it has only happened on the X axis. I thought
it might be something like a buffer over-run since it only seemed to happen
when I was doing a longish jog. I reduced the repeat key speed on my
keyboard to the lowest setting but it still happens on occasion. Thankfully
so far no damage has been done since EStop and the limit switches still
operate and it normally happens when I'm setting things up when the cutter
is raised above the work. I've dug around a bit on the Internet to see if
someone else has the same problem, but no luck so far.

so why are we the only lucky ones. i have broken two $20 new router bits so far.

What is too high and what if any are the implications of a lower kernel speed?

The reality is the change from WIN-XP to WIN-VISTA cost the world millions of dollars in lost productivity. ?The next good OS was WIN-7.? The cost to change WIN-10 might well tally in the billions.? i sure understand, i am an old guy programming since the 70s. other than a little C forced by programming arduinos, i have not learned much in the last 10 years. i have written literally hundreds of programs that i fortunately and just by plain luck relied on a system that supported all the fucking changes foisted on us by microsoft. i share these programs mainly with fellow music collectors of a particular type. i have done (don't laugh) virtually all of my programming in Perl which has an amazing number of open source packages. i use a tool that packages my perl scripts along with the perl interpreter into an exe that will run on virtually any PC. support is gone but all my programs still work and if i keep the old IDE working (it works on win 10 64 bit) and don't try to update anything it all still works. when it stops i will have to abandon support for 99% of my "customers" microsoft has threatened to stop allowing these exes to run but hasn't if they do there will always be perl (it is still used extensively on servers for all sorts of utility functions) but users will have to do a lot more work than running an exe.

my programs still run on xp through win 10, just by luck.

i will die before i write a cloud app but i am doing some wifi web shit because people want to control my arduino programs from their phone?

once i got mach3 "working" i never updated anything windows drivers etc unless forced to.

if the bit breaking is really just because smart key or whatever the fuck it is i will probably not switch to mach4 although learning how to get if sort of working might be useful when win 11 doesn't support mach3 anymore :) i am rapidly losing my ability to program because i am dealing with stage 4 cancer and some heavy duty drugs that really mess with my attention. that is why i asked for help with customizations. things that used to be real easy are a challenge now but i refuse to take to the couch and give up. i always joked that i would write a boot time program that if i could not pass the test would shoot me in the head. might be time to take that seriously.

my machine computers are offline and stripped to the core. every unnecessary (that is more difficult to figure out with win 10) service is disabled and there is nothing at all in startup. still apply a lot of the suggestions in the old mach3 guide as to how to set up your computer.

i am all in favor of support of the greatest variety of users. i forget what microsoft call it but features for people with different needs get my full support. just don't make them the default. "handicapped" people are more resourceful than non "handicapped" people (by necessity) and can certainly find what they need if these features are made available to them

I have been making machines for blind people to use because the company i work for hires "handicapped" people. I find it very rewarding to get to understand the perspective and needs of a person that are very different from mine. My last project was a bobbin winding machine that talks. It is still being used by sighted people but I will soon get feedback as to whether I did a good job or not.

To me, the joy of being a human being is that we are all different and can enjoy and benefit from these differences.

Learn to use Regedit.

You can script things and then create desktop shortcuts to blow out and rearrange things as desired.

Funny, you said sticky keys was “some stupid windows "feature" that no one wants”.

?

Huh.

?

“No, no, some of my best friends are…”

?

I’d rather Microsoft focus on that rather than cater to the handful of dumb-arses trying to run CNC on Windows.? Imagine going to a major CNC manufacturer and asking for a Win10 version, the look they’d give you would be implying that your IQ just managed to crawl out of the freezer.

?

There are plenty of cheap dedicated CNC controls these days, buy one and get on with life.? I did.? (Smoothieware boards for the 3D printer, laser, mill & lathe if anyone cares.)

?

I gave up on Mach after a discussion with the developers who didn’t understand why installing into C:\Mach4 wasn’t the brightest of ideas; that showed they didn’t really get how Windows works.

i am all in favor of support of the greatest variety of users. i forget what microsoft call it but features for people with different needs get my full support. just don't make them the default.

The problem is I don't what I don't know and therefore don't know how to remove it.

So what's a library view?

What's a repeat drive displays via wow64

Don't use Cortana and xbox.

John, I don't actually use my PC's for CNC, but I also don't use Cortana and X-box. Unfortunately, you can't uninstall them. At least not normally. I belive he's saying you can get rid of them using Regedit, which is the Windows Registry Editor.?

If so, I'd certainly be interested in finding out how to do it. Odds of my using a PC for CNC are somewhere between slim and none, but I'd really like to eliminate some of the crap I don't like in Windows 10. And I can't seem to learn enough about Linux to get to where I was with Windows a couple of decades ago. Though I have lost a lot of that from disuse.?
