Connecting an MPG

Having a little trouble connecting a German MPG encoder to Mach3 all the button presses are recognised on the mach screen but no run up/down movement when I rotate dial.

I don't have any motors connected yet just testing on screen, downloaded Mach3 V3.043.062? put copy of DLL V5 file in mach plugin folder, 5 macro files into Macro folder, done a restart gone into Config: ports & pins: configure the mpg, enabled MPG#1 now not sure what to put into A-port A-pin? &? B-port B-pin, I have read to enable Encoder #1 as well again not sure what to put into A & B boxes, have tabbed out to change jog mode to MPG but no light change, can anyone show or tell me what I am doing wrong please.

You need to connect the wires from the mpg encoder A+ A- B+ and B- to input pins on the port(s) and then fill in the table with which pin each cable is connected to. There are not usually many input pins available on port 1 so frequently port 2 would be used. This is where trying to use a computer with only one parallel port starts to cause issues. You can often fit a second port on desktop computers but then getting suitable drivers can be a problem. Adding one to a laptop is probably impossible. Motion controllers such as a smooth stepper running off a network connection or a USB connection get around this problem as they have 2 parallel ports and often a separate mpg connector.
