hotkeys

Hello.

I'm currently working on the control panel for my Bridgeport Rigid
Ram. I'd like to have the axis hotkeys use designated inputs. I
have tried using the control + arrow keys for jogging. The scancode
in the system hotkeys box recognized the input but the key stroke
didn't jog the machine. Not a big deal, but it would cut down on
the accidental jog/crash when you drop your keyboard. That and it
gives more inputs, I think.

Josh,

Are you saying that you would like to be required to deploy two hot keys for axis jogging so as to eliminate the chance of an inadvertent jog command? If so I would like to add to your suggestion. Have a safety hot key for velocity jogging and one for incremental jogging thereby eliminating the current jogging toggle.

Not necessarily requiring combination key strokes. But having it
the option. For some reason I like the idea of the jog keys only
being the jog keys.

The same with feed hold, if your in mdi your forced to use esc. Your
feed hold does not work. I use feed hold enough to want a feed hold
button on my control panel but if it doesn't always work, that
could be a potential cash or the notorious loss of steps.

I'd like it if the continuous .001 .01 .1 were buttons. A rotary
switch with a button in the center to input would be awesome for jog
selection.

If you use the scroll lock key for continuous/jog toggle input, then
the light from the keyboard could be used for a continuous jog panel
light. Added visual ad. Any ideas?

I would love to see a two key option for Jog, Ctrl (jogkey) for increment and Shift (jogkey) for velocity, or something similar. How would this effect programming game joysticks, one of which I intend to buy tomorrow?

Hi:

A two-key jog would not affect the Joystick as long as the profiler for
the stick can send double key strokes when hit. BUT, I think it could only
be added as an option. This would screw up too many people using pendents
already made. This problem about 2 keys is exactly why Tim G. has suggested
(and it is implemented this way in Mach2Turn, that there be a positioning
screen (which has jog) and an MDI screen, which has no Jog but does have an
MDI line. The theory is to use the POS screen for jogging around and then
switching to the MDI screen, this stops any accidents from occuring from
inadvertant Jog key presses.

And what a bloody nuisance it is too!! I use a pendant for jogging,
but end up using the mouse to swap screens - really annoying when the
idea was to do away with the mouse in the first place!!

If I add an MDI box to the jog screen will they both work? If not can
you sort that, I've no objection to redesigning my screens - as it
stands now it's a pain the ass!

Steve:

You can add the Jog mode selector to any screen and it will begin to jog.
You can also program a hot-key on your pendent to change screens for you if
you have enough buttons.

I haven't dealt with this issue well, because its like the moderation
issue. Both camps feel very strongly about their position, so the current
screens are a compromise. Adding Jog to the main screen is trivial, and
removing the MDI screen is also trivial, (Just remove the MDI page button).

We'll see how it shapes up...
