z-axis motor suggestion?

matthewbeisel

I have a RF-31 that I am close to finishing for a CNC conversion.
The steppers for the x and y are 520 oz*in using gecko drives. I
have another that I can use for the z-axis. The CNC express mill
from microkinetics uses a 250 oz*in motor for the z. What are the
disadvantages of using a larger motor. If I can keep the heat under
control..does it matter? Thanks in advance.

I use one also. At roughly $40 retail, you can't beat it!

Re: mach 1/2 and WinNT4?

John Guenther

FWIW, I have Mach2 running on a 300MHz Pentium and a 400MHz AMD K6, both run
it, the latter seems to run it better. Sometimes on the 300 I see "pausing"
or "hesitation" on some rapid moves. The cutting moves, g1, g2, g3 all seem
to be smooth and accurate, it is just the g0 moves that have the "pausing"
or "hesitation" in the movement. This does not happen all the time, and is
generally repeatable. I don't see this as a major problem, just a slow
computer.

Frank:
A 266 sounds a little light, but CPU speed has no effect on the
final pulse
rate. If you can run Mach2, you get the full speed available, there is no
slowdown on slower computers. You can either run it or you can't is the
rule.
I have heard of 350's and even a couple of 266's running
correctly, but I
really suggest at least a 500Mhz.

Good luck,

Re: V1002 threading

Steve:

Thanks, the numbers help. It seems to indicate that the "normal" spincount
is too low and the current is almost 3 times the normal. This means a 3:1
reduction in speed is being sensed. This is obviously wrong and probably a
bug on my part due to spindle speed step/dir. I suspect the delay is
causing a screwed up number being computed.

Re: stepper stall (to Art)

Daniel:

Send me the file and I'll either fix the trouble or let you know whats
causing it. Sounds like a small bug in the interpreter or something. Beware
of M0's, they mean "end of program" and will stop translation so that you
get no further toolpath. Use M1's when you can, that way you get full
toolpath..

Thanks,

Re: STILL NO TOOL PATH

Art

Hi:

Don't delete the old version when updateing, it will cause your settings to
be lost. Keep a backup of your *.xml files so you can copy them back in any
event.

As to the toolpath, please send me the DXF, I suspect its a simple setting
problem. I'll generate a toolpath from it, see if theres a problem and let
you know what your doing wrong.

Thanks,

Re: mach 1/2 and WinNT4?

Thanks Art, I thought so :)

I am trying to get a computer that I can use to test mach2 program.
My motors are runing at maximum 6000. Will a PII266 running on Win2k
be enough for that kind of speed (for mach2)? If not, what would you
suggest as a minimum CPU type/speed?

Regards,

Frank

Art, does this problem fix mine???

After the M0 command, I put a full circle command. And sometimes it
runs and other don?t (no stepper stall here, Mc2 was ignoring the
first line after the M0, and to fix it I was using: g1 x--- y---
before the G2 or G3)

Any clue?

Daniel.

Re: STILL NO TOOL PATH

Daniel Maioli Padua

Maybe this can help to solve ...

If I use M0 or M1, the toolpath display the code until it gets the
first stop command;

The same occurs for elapsed time;

The file runs fine in M5.

Hi:

At popular request..Close file, reload file buttons have been added to
main screen for next release. Close will (Duhh) close the current file.
Reload will load the last loaded fil ein a session. This is to make it
easier to resave files from CAM programs without having to navigate menu's.

Got my uS and mS mixed, at 500rpm they are 10mS wide.

Did a test with spindle feedback turned off, spindle starts and spin
adder still delayed for 10 seconds or so while it counts it's
millions, then when running, normal and current spin counts vary by
20 or so max. I did notice once there was a jump to over 100 - I'm
going to try moving the sensor and painting the disk black in case
it's picking up on a reflection now and then. I'm not seeing it on the
scope, but Mach2 may be!

BTW - Rotation time error flickers +-1% occasionally.
When job finished I had

Normal 3483
Current 9783
Spin Adder 1539

Index signal is low active, and was set that way, tried it high active
made no difference.

STILL NO TOOL PATH

csgchum

I have tried just about all settings and still no tool path.
I have tried different versions and I do get a tool path with mach2/2
as before but mach2/1.0 and mach2/1.02 do not. The mach2/2 does not
work properly however. Iv got to get this program working and need
some help. If I punch the regen. button a note comes on the screen
saying cannot do g1 with zero feed rate on line number 9 #9 This
should be a clue as to my problem. I have entered a feed rate
and to no avail. How come no one else has this problem. Each time
I do an uninstall before re loading and delete anything else that
seems to be part of old program.

mach 1/2 and WinNT4?

Hello,

I would like to try demo versions of Master5 and mach1/2. I don't
have any computer with the win2k installed arround here, only windows
NT 4 and win98 (and Linux). Will mach1 or mach2 work on winnt?

John,

If you beg on tool tips then please beg for them to be optional. I believe that the most helpful aid would be a G&M code directory that would function like the Help tab at the top of the window. Don't make us all use training wheels just because there are some that can't ride the bike yet.

Re: Circles files

Harry,

Go to the top of the Mach1/2 window and click on the configure tab,
that will provoke a drop down menu. Click on the menu item "State"
and check the IJ mode, more than likely you want it to be incremental.

Circles files

Has anyone experienced a problem importing a dxf circle to
mach2. The problem I have is after importing the file and converting
it to G code the dimensions change. I can draw a circle inside a
square, import and convert and now the circle is twice as big as the
square. I' m using AutoCAD & Rhino to create the dxf. Can anyone
enlighten me? Thanks Newby
