USB extender
To specialist guys in cables, ?I connect the devices (cameras, focuser, GPS¡) through an USB ¨CLan extender (?https://es.aliexpress.com/item/32636951658.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.294763c0DzflBM) from my permanent observatory to a comfortable cabin 10 m away. All works very well, but when I try to connect the Losmandy mount? G11 Gemini 1 with TheSkyX Pro (via RJ22 RS-232 socket-RS232 serial DB9-USB, that functions correctly if I connect directly to my computer) it is not possible because they (the device USB-LAN extender and TheSkyX) share the same port COM). Looking on ¡°Gemini_Telescope_Net _Installation and_Manual¡±, I believe that the solution could be to create a virtual port (¡°Pass-Trough Port Setup¡± describes on the 32 page). But I don¡¯t know which option is prefereable: via a hardware serial port or via a software created virtual port. Or othe solution. Can someone help me? Luis |
Hi Luis,
Using the virtual pass-through port in ASCOM driver is the complicated way to do this. Using TheSkyX ASCOM connector configured to connect to Gemini.NET driver is the easier way. Gemini.NET is a hub and allows any number of ASCOM applications to connect to Gemini at the same time. Regards, ? ? -Paul |
Hi Paul, Thanks for your answer. But perhaps I didn't expose the problem correctly. Without the USB-LAN extender device, I connect the gadgets into the USB ports of the computer: camara 1 in the port 1, focuser in the port 2,...and the mount in the port 3. For the mount the drive dedicates a specific COM, in the example, COM3. If I connect it in the USB port 1, it will be COM 1, etc. If I do it through the USB-LAN extender that connect to the computer via USB port 1 (or any other?port)? all the USB gadgets work well, but when?I try control the mount? using a USB port of the USB_LAN extender, and in this way to eliminate the need of other?cable, and I connect the SkyX, the computer says that it is not possible because two devices (or programs) are using the same port. I hope?it's clearer now. El jue, 3 dic 2020 a las 22:23, Paul Kanevsky (<yh@...>) escribi¨®: Hi Luis, |

I'm still not sure I understand, but it sounds like there are two serial devices on your USB extender that are allocated the same COM port, did I get that right? If that's the case, you'll need to find a way to change what port is configured for one of them. Virtual pass-through port in Gemini.NET will not help this. Hi Luis,
I'm not sure I understand, but maybe if I run through how I do remote operation it can help. If not, just pull the handle and flush it. LOL! I have a powered hub mounted on my Telescope. Everything feeds to it (cameras, focuser, mount) and a single USB 3 cable runs down to my Dell 2-in-one Tablet/Laptop. The "Baby Dell" as I call it, then WiFi connects to my LAN through my router, and that gives me a virtual desktop on my inside computer so I can run my mount from inside just as if I were sitting in front of the outdoors mount computer (Baby Dell). For me, this has been my best and most reliable method to have fully functioning Computer and Display at the mount, and to run remotely as well. Brian has put up another way using an Ethernet router and cable connecting your mount and 30 m (meters?) should be easy. Here's a link:? There are two ways I know of. Running an Ethernet cable for me is not desirable. But WiFi works well for me, with my Windows 10 Baby Dell. Hope that helps. -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |
