The Lagoon
Arun Hegde
Not many people share images here, it seems, but I thought this would be a nice change from the technical issues/problems we discuss here to share what can be done with our equipment. This one is of the Lagoon Nebula that I imaged earlier in the week from a dark sky site about 30 miles away from where I live. I also enjoyed viewing this, the Swan and Eagle through binoculars as I was imaging.
This is about 5 hours total in LRGB. It is a bit low in the sky here, 22 degrees at its highest, so guiding was not as great as with other objects I image.? Clear skies, Arun |
Arun, That is awesome! Thanks for sharing! well done Arun nicely colored too. There's an inclination to oversaturate, and I think you've balanced it nicely On Sat, Jun 20, 2020 at 7:38 PM Arun Hegde <arun.k.hegde@...> wrote: Not many people share images here, it seems, but I thought this would be a nice change from the technical issues/problems we discuss here to share what can be done with our equipment. Yeah, I am totally jealous of you Southern Hemisphere folks for objects such as this! The bulge of the Milky Way passes right through zenith there and makes for some spectacular images. Here's a group shot pointed to the zenith this Friday night. 15s ISO 3200 |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI guess I never realized that when you get to dark-enough skies, you can almost make out what appears to be three faces looking down on you. ?;-)On Jun 28, 2020, at 7:23 AM, "marc@..." <marc@...> wrote:

This site is actually so dark the milky way starlight casts your shadow on the ground. |

I guess it just dawned on me how dark this is, and what it means to have Scorpio and Sagittarius that high. You can make out the dark river to Antares and the orange color of the Rho region in a 15s shot. That's pretty amazingI've always struggled to get a good SNR on the Rho area around antares. Even if it's at the zenith it's pretty faint and needs a lot of integration time. I started a mosaic 3 years ago and added to it. It's 4 panels to date:?? It would be pretty hard to image above the horizon I imagine. |
