Hi everyone,

?

we just finished and uploaded our first in a new series of tutorials. this one is on the wavy washer upgrade (as requested!)

?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_NlX21dksI

?

it's our first one and my premiere, so be gentle haha. But seriously, any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

?

It’s a bit longer than I would have preferred, but it’s pretty comprehensive

?

?

One of our top priorities is more tutorials and documentation

?

?

?

Thanks

?

Brian

Brian,

My feedback is that it is an excellent video, clear and easy to understand and just the right length.

?hoping for a balance video as the sticktion is the reason I upgraded to the wavey washer and balancing has been? super trickey with my 10" RC on G11

Great video tutorial!?Explanations were clear, video shots were well framed, and the sound was great. Looking forward to more of these.?

Well done, Bryan!
Looking forward to many more.

Brian's first tutorial video is proof positive that Scott Losmandy's?decision to bring Brian on-board is a brilliant stroke.? Well done by all involved!

Ah the intro

I should mention that Scott is a huge fan of vintage and he is a huge Lost in Space fan. (Star Trek too, i'm guess the original series?)

so we wanted to do something that let you know a little about who we are. it might turn into a couch gag kind of thing, a little different with each one? :)

Brian, I did order a wavy washer, I can move a 22 Lb. Counterweight a few inches before I get a reaction from the RA. Plus I needed to order a extra set of RA and DEC cables any how for my G11 survival kit. Thank you Brian and HAPPY SKIES.Deric.

Great video! Covered all the points, the length is just right for the detail you put into it. Keep it up.

Nice video, and good to see you in "person". I might order one of those if it would help me balance my GM811G better in RA.

Arun,
You might best look before you order. ;^)

Gentlefolk,

As Sonny just said, look before you leap.

The heavy wavy spring cannot fit your mount unless it already has a machined? groove for the (flattened) wavy washer to fit in.??

So...look at the metal surfaces of your clutch area before you try and put a wavy washer in there.? It might conceivably have a groove and no washer in place.??

Best of luck,
Michael

Thanks, Sonny and Michael. Yes, I absolutely plan to look before I leap!

Michael, mine has the groove. I can move a 22Lb Weight 3.50 or so inches with no response from the RA, Mine is a bit sticky I think, we will see, it is a small issue to deal with. Plus I needed to buy extra DEC and RA cables any how. HAPPY SKIES Deric

Arun,
I meant to say, best to take it apart and look to see if you don't already have the spring washer in yours.
From what Brian explained to me, our GM811G heads are a kind of high-bred. G11 - RA, with a GM-8 - Dec.
So since our GM811G's are probably (But I don't know) the latest of the greatest, maybe the "wavey washer" Spring Washer is already in it.

I could easily dismantle mine to look for you. But I'd prefer not to if I can talk you into dismantling yours instead. ;^) LOL!

Hi Brian,

Thank you for a very informative video.? After watching this video, I dismantled my G-11 in order to check the wavy washer direction.? Actually, the washer was installed around one year ago, after I talked with HGM about the sticky RA.
I found the direction was wrong.? I reseated it correctly as instructed in your video.

Brian,

While not specifically stated in the video, I assume the washer sharp edge side goes down to the lower disc, and the smooth side goes up to the nylon disc. After being compressed inside the mount for a year or two, perhaps the jumpy side won't be as obvious. Some smaller size wavy washers I used in the past lose their spring tension and go flat over time. Hope you can clarify this point. The sharp side would probably dig into the nylon more easily, as has been mentioned in this forum in weeks past.

Many thanks,

John

Hi John

that's a good question. We don't specify it by sharp vs unsharp side. The notion is pretty straightforward: you want the flattest side facing the worm gear. This is so it stays seated and if you really loosen your RA it doesn't pop out accidentally (even if it does, you can always put it back in, but hopefully with the correct side down).

if you aren't sure you can always just place it on a surface and do that test, and whichever side is flat (or flatter) is the side facing the worm gear.

hth

Brian?
