Manual Slew Gemini 1

I¡¯m hoping this is obvious but it¡¯s escaping me! I¡¯ve read the Gemini 1 manual (1.05) and searched this group, but I¡¯m at a loss! So here goes.

How do I manually slew a GM-8 with Gemini 1? I¡¯ve tried using the RA+ but it goes into the alignment menu.

All I want to is manually slew in RA so that I can monitor the Amp draw to refine my balance by noting amp draw differences as I¡¯ve seen mentioned in posts on here.

I usually use the ASIAIR Pro for imaging, so have never used the hand controller to create a model, so not sure if this has to be done before manual slew can be invoked.?

can manual slew be used immediately from Gemini power on?

Apologies for such a basic question, but I just can¡¯t seem to find an answer!!

Cheers

Bryn

After boot, (edit: its alignment mode press menu to enter sidereal mode) enter sidereal mode, Press and hold Ra direction arrow you want and at same time press the opposite Ra button. ?Keep holding the Direction you wanted ? When you let it go it will stop

Be aware there is some lag letting it go it will run on trying to catch up to where it thought you wanted to go

The system will ?them fast move at the rate you have selected. ?So best to be in all speeds mode ?aka not guide or centring ?

edit:thanks David

Thanks Brendan,

I did manage to get it to slew following your advice. However, immediately after boot, I waited for the controller screen to go dark, then followed your instructions. However, instead of slewing, it went into the align star menu and went through to Arcturus and started goto slewing.?

I cancelled the goto slew. Only after I cancelled the goto slew, could I manually slew following your instructions.

Subsequently, what am I doing wrong such that I can¡¯t manually slew after boot up without undertaking and cancelling an align star first?

Bryn,

ensure you are in sidereal mode not any other mode.?

When you boot it'll automatically go to alignment mode ......you need to use the menu to get out of this and enter sidereal mode.?? Also it depends upon which drive rate you have.? If it's in guide it will only move at guide....best to be in all speeds or such like.

Bryn,

As Brian mentioned, each time you press the Menu?button, the Gemini-1 toggles between:

?Menu display (wherein you use the up down North/South arrows to pick the menu option...Align, Setup, etc )

?and?

?Tracking display (wherein you use the Arrow buttons slew the mount around "manually").? ?

When tracking , you might be in the "Photo" (meaning very slow slew guide) mode.? You might not even notice the mount moving at all in that slow rate, intended for autoguiding a camera.??

If you are moving East say by holding down the East direction button, you can go faster by momentarily pressing the opposing (West) button.? Another press of the opposing button may increase the slew speed another notch.? Release all buttons to go back to the slowest speed.??

To change the slew rate from Photo to Visual rate, hold down the Menu key for one second, and when the new sleep rate appears release the Menu button.? That will toggle to a new slew rate (Visual mode is faster than Photo mode).? Do it again to switch the Rate back.??

Holding down the Menu button for longer time will make other options appear.? When option you want appears release the Menu button.??

You have to play with this clever key press time multiplexed Menu button to get used to it.?

Once you get your Gemini connected to a PC through its RS232 serial port, you can more easily use the ASCOM Gemini.net applet to get to all the menu items in a more accessible way.??

Holing down the Menu button for a long time, maybe 5 seconds, will show Meridian Flip if it is possible to do so.? Again, play with this clever Menu system...daytime is a good time to get familiar with it.??

Pressing the East or West buttons usually interrupts a slew of your GoTo or Meridian Flip look like they might physically crash into something.? Again...try out the button presses and get familiar with it.

Best of luck,
Michael

Not quite ¨C after boot it¡¯s in Alignment mode you need to press the Menu button to get the Sidereal mode ¨C at which point the arrow keys do move the mount.
