if you open device manager....do this by pressing windows key and type "device manager". ? It will appear in left hand pane, select to open.?? Now look at >Ports (COM &LPT) and click to open to view the ports.?? When you connect your USB/RS232 converter the device will appear here and assign a virtual com port.? Note this com port number
Open Gemini ASCOM, in HC tab hit setup/configure telescope and select the com port you previously found (above), enter it and select appropriate baud rate, usually 9600bps (though most devices can do faster).?? Click "OK" in bottom right corner of ASCOM box.?? Now click "connect" on ASCOM HC handler box.??? It should work.
If its updated to win 11 it is possible you may need new USB/RS232 drivers from the chipset mfgr of your converter.? Indeed some older devices like PL2303 are no longer supported...but the "Device manager/Ports" will tell you this.? Even if not supported the device should appear in Ports(COM & LPT) but show "unsupported" or something like that.
If your device is appearing in "Ports (COM/&LPT)" but not connecting, check" the port Baud: 9600bps, data bits: 8; Parity none; stop bits: 1,? flow control: none.
If your device is not appearing...well that's odd get back and we will handle that if it is happening.? Other than that check your cables are not frayed or a wire pulled out etc.? Every USB device upon connecting will normally be recognised and update drivers automatically.?? Might be best to post a screen shot image of your "device manager/Ports (COM & LPT) so we can see it.
Best to also write your name or "nick" at bottom of messages (this can be auto done in IO groups profiles) in forums. its kinda nice to know to who we are replying.??
Cheers?
