FW: RA drift and PE

Glenn Ray

I'm a new owner of a used G-11 (about 2 years old). I pretend to think
I've read through all the instructions (and previous threads here) and am
unable to find an answer to my problem.

First problem: I am currently experiencing RA drift, before PEC, of up to
40 arcseconds every 5 minutes. I thought that perhaps I hadn't tightened
the RA clutch enough, or that I hadn't properly distributed the weight
(note that I didn't say "balanced"). I've got clutch knobs and am
tightening the clutch about as tight as I can, short of using tools.

Second problem: PEC doesn't appear to work. I've had a lot of experience
with PEC training with my C8 Powerstar mount (which had excellent PE of
less than 5 arcseconds with training). Under the best circumstances, I'm
noting a PE of about 15 arcseconds, peak-to-peak, AFTER PEC.

I know that the fault probably lies in the user and not the mount, so I'd
appreciate any advice on what I need to do to correct this.

Thanks,

Glenn Ray
