Further on G11 stiction

Scott is right....

With my fix you cannot completely lock down the clutches, however for
visual use and using the analog setting circles it works great. Also
works great for sweeping up a DSO with a low power EP without using
the hand paddle which will change the RA setting from the previous
object acquired.

I also bought the optional clutch knobs with the handles which
allows
me to put extra pressure on the clutch assmbly. Anyway, with a fully
loaded C11 on board, it works great. BTW, I also use Losmandy's
counterweight that mates to the dovetail mount on the front of the
tube
assembly that allows me to balance out the OTA perfectly. Also use a
6 lb counterweight as well as the supplied 21 lb. By adding these two
items, I can achieve a perfect balance point in all positions.

Hi Bill,

How about photographic use? It seems that as long as the OTA is
balanced, things should be fine for photographic AND visual use.

It would seem that the G11 should come standard with teflon AND
clutch
knobs, and retail for 100 bucks more. Then G11 users would be happier
campers from the start! ;>)

Hi Steve

IMO you should have no problem using my fix photographically (is
there such a word??) Anyway, the other night, I observed M57 at 428x
for a half hour without any perceptable shifting of M57 in the
field.I'm sure there was periodic error present, but without a
reticle
EP I couldn't see it. That also says something about the accuracy of
the polar alignment scope. Also, the slewing paddle works great in
all four directions, so you should have no trouble guiding.

As far as buying the scope with the optional knobs, good luck. You
might talk to Pocono West about swapping out the original knobs. Glen
the manager is pretty good about accomodating customers. Also, I
don't think Scott likes my teflon fix very much, but as far as I'm
concerned it made a major pain in the ass disappear.
