Attaching HC

I got some HD Velcro per Brian's suggestion to attach the HC to my LW tripod. So do I just put a strip on the leg and a strip on the side of the HC? Or is there another attachment point?

Thanks,

Erik B.

Hi Erik

it's totally DIY, so wherever you like (i'm sure you'll get lots of good suggestions here on what others do)

personally I put velcro on the underside of my gemini and attach it there. out of the way, don't accidentally bang into it, etc.

Also FYI if you are not using it, you can unplug it and bring it inside.

lately i've been using my G11 without any hand controller at all (partly to see if it's possible, and partly it's just easier haha)

This is exactly what I did with the LW tripod on my GM8...piece of velcro on each leg near the top and a mating piece on the back of the HC.

For the Gemini 2 HC I built a box to hold the controller attaching it to the pier near the electronics box. There is a fellow on Cloudy Nights selling a printed Gemini 2 HC holder with a clip to attach it to the tripod for less than $25.

Velcro makes what they call , round 3/4" (5/8") Hook & Loop, self adhesive stick on's.
I got some as a sample in some roll package of Velcro.

I put a dot of the Loop side at the top and bottom edge of my HC, with the Hook side attached.
Pealed the covering from the hook side and the HC . I centered it up (it fits well), and pressed it to the apex of the round leg.
Snug as a bug in a rug.

I just let the coiled wire drape naturally back and up to my Southward facing Gemini 2? controller. I have the Velcro on both the S/E and S/W legs. (Single leg North)

If you buy the 1" wide Velcro sticky back, you can cut squares and mount them diamond shaped to your tripod, too.

Remember is your friend to clean up any sticky adhesive when removing stuff.

Now that's just crazy, Brian!

But wow, you've got me thinking now....

Indeed!

Not many people realize the Hand Controller is really just another computer client to the gemini.?

Your computer running is similarly equipped, so you really don't need the hand controller at all. The only time i may use it is for polemaster, setting HOME position, etc.

I wasn't sure. With my old POS AVX, the HC was the brain of the mount.
I don't really have a reason to exclude it from my mount and the way I run it.
But it is interesting (and relieving) that it isn't proprietary to the mount.
I do routinely unplug it to break down into my modals for moving out and in.
I carry the HC with my computer stuff.
(I have quite the routine.) :^)

Always glad to help Erik.

Velcro! It's not just for shoes anymore! LOL!

I use Velcro straps, and Ball bungee's a lot.

FYI the "industrial strength" version of velcro?is something called Dual Lock from 3M

it's velcro, but both sides have?more resilient and 'sticky' hooks, instead of velcro's?one side of fuzzy cloth-like
