g11 control box
Hello, Bob Hancey, here, well the rehab of G11 for SVAS continues (previous topic), have managed to get power to unit. The newest problem, the control (handheld) lights up, but the screen is so dim as to be essentially unreadable (looks like opening screen and is blue). The cable is old, but apparently able send a signal. Using Occam's Razor the most likely problem is the cable, but failing that, my next conclusion is the control box is the problem.? However, given my limited insight into this issue I am soliciting any other possible explanations for this issue or solutions.? In an attempt to localize issue will connect my control box and a newer cable (separately) to mount is see if this gives me idea where the problem is. After that I am just lost in space. Respectfully submitted Bob

Hi Bob it may be your screen brightness is set to minimum you can try the following: - use a dark room or somewhere where you can see the screen enough to navigate - from the home screen (diamonds) go to Menu->HC->display (the exact path may be different depending on your firmware) at the bottom there will be dim and bright buttons. Click bright repeatedly until it is bright enough On Tue, Aug 30, 2022 at 3:29 PM Robert Hancey <rdhx@...> wrote: Hello, Bob Hancey, here, well the rehab of G11 for SVAS continues (previous topic), have managed to get power to unit. Bob H. here well the journey at SVAS to get the G11 up and running continues, most recent problem getting hand controller (hc) to function.? Older cable works used another HC, and all works well. Older HC continues to be non-responsive to touch input, compared new vs the older HC, and it appears there is a looseness between the ??? plastic and the underlying visual screen. Opened the HC and examined the ribbon to the touch sensitive plastic which is intact. It became clear that the interface between the 2 surfaces do not seem to be cohesive, i.e., the upper touch surface is loose when compared with the newer HC. IS THIS FATAL NON-REPAIRABLE DEFECT or is a solution available (older HC was exposed to environment for at least 3 yrs.) MY thought is to use a non-reactive substance like a mineral oil to cause adherence between the 2 surfaces in an attempt to revive the response of the touch sensitive plastic to the underlying surface.? Need input from members as to a solution (will not try my solution prior to any input from members) IF this problem with the old HC is fatal, then question becomes IS there a secondary/used market for HC that can be used to keep overall costs down. Respectfully submitted Bob H.

Hi Robert.
In general HCs can be repaired if it¡¯s just the screen or touch IC simple stuff like that.? There were 2 main HC types : The older which had the display soldered to the carrier PCB. The newer where the display is connected by a FFC/FPC ribbon/Socket.. ?? Each can be repaired to the extent of what's mentioned.? Both also have an ARM controller, that will can be replaced required reprogramming and you are getting to the territory costs of "its cheaper to buy another". ? I'm not sure, I do not have the firmware to replace the HC ARM, Losmandy might be able?? I can on the main board and have done so but they have differing firmware. But, most HC fails are "displays" or the "resistive touch IC".?? If the "touch panel" has de-bonded from the display....i wouldn't bother trying to fix that, just replace the screen AIO. ? These can be replaced. Contact your or Losmandy. Have you sorted your HC brightness issue?? I was thinking the brightness is turned down or it had backlit LEDs that have failed.? FWIW?? Also most HC fails are the cables at the plug crimps.?? You can buy a crimper and put on a new RJ22 6P6C plug.?? Easy enough and the curled cord has usually enough straight length to do so.? Or just buy a replacement from Losmandy or as mentioned? in many previous posts..? As for costs they vary amongst repairers.?? I understand your concern on a costly item and i have (as other repairers) strived to obtain replacement parts in stock.?? The older HC displays are impossible to get apart from repairers.? The others you can obtain from Losmandy or repairers but most feel you should send it for repair testing as just sending a display is fraught with shipping hazards and cannot be held responsible.?? They are very fragile. cheers -- Brendan |
Bob Hancey here, have found a talented repair person to do a clean, lube, adjust of the mount, and has offered to fix the HC and "bullit proof" (his words) the main Gemini controller, and all that at what we (SVAS) feel is a very fair cost. Thanks to all for your input, respectfully submitted Bob H.

has offered to fix the HC and "bullit proof" (his words) sounds like a michael herman special On Thu, Sep 8, 2022 at 10:35 AM Robert Hancey <rdhx@...> wrote: Bob Hancey here, have found a talented repair person to do a clean, lube, adjust of the mount, and has offered to fix the HC and "bullit proof" (his words) the main Gemini controller, and all that at what we (SVAS) feel is a very fair cost.
