Power GM811 from ASIAIR Pro, Pegasus PowerBox, or directly from 12v power source?

Edited

Instead of powering the mount's control panel directly from a 12v power source (in my case, that would be from the?

Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 240, 240Wh Backup Lithium Battery? 16.8Ah, 14.4V), would there be a problem
powering from one of the following?? If no problem, which would be optimal?

?
1. ASIAIR Pro
2. Pegasus PowerBox

My intention is to run at least two dew heater strips from the PowerBox.? I had thought of ditching the PowerBox, but I had heard that the ASIAIR Pro
can get excessively hot if you try to power too much through it.

Edit:
Sorry, just found this in the ASIAIR Pro online manual:
"Please ensure cables cannot become snagged in operation . We do not recommend
the mount power supply be connect to the ASIAIR 12V outlet port as some
mounts may exceed the available current and become unreliable in operation."

Thanks much,
Warren

The mount itself should not use much power...only if it is way unbalanced or gears jammed.

Typical power into my G11s is:

Gemini bootup: 0.15 amp
Gemini starts sidereal tracking: add 0.10 amp

Gemini doing a far GoTo (both motors doing a fast slew): add 0.45 amp.

So most of the time the Gemini and RA tracking motor are using about 0.35 amp.??

The problem is the high amps used by few heaters.? Most of my dew heaters measure 10 ohm.? So a 12VDC will consume 1.2 amps per dew heater.? That is DC current and you can get corrosion or heating at the contact.? High current draw could cause a voltage drop from the power supply, depending on the gauge dimension of the power cables.?

You get better DC mount motor torque by supplying the Gemini with a higher DC voltage supply.? I use 17V for that.? The gemini is rated from 12 to 18 V.??

Have fun figuring your power system out!

Hi Warren

Michael offered some good info on amperage, etc.

Personally I own the powerbox pro, but never thought of connecting my mount to it.

primarily because I prefer to run the Gemini at a higher voltage, but also I use the powerbox on top of my telescope, and when i power the mount from a jackery (like you) i leave that power on the ground, and it's one less cable from the mount i have to worry about
