OK. So to every solution, there is a problem...
I'm using a Dell 2 in 1 Tablet/Laptop as my Mount Computer. And it has historically been connected with a 15' USB cable, USB B type, to a USB A type connectors. I have the , and have tried hooking it up. Dandy. I can see it, I can select it as my router, I haven't gotten things to work quite yet. But my particular (Peculiar) Computer does not have an Ethernet Port. :^( So I ordered . My hope is to one day use a CAT 5E cable from my mount, into my RV where I can be bug free and climate controlled. (Old Farts want their comforts) (Please note: I'm not concerned with high speed. I'm fine with 2.0 as many of my items are 2.0.) I think not having an Ethernet Port has been my hindrance with my Baby Dell. It has 2 - USB 2.0 ports, and a USB 3.0 port where I was thinking of putting the adapter cable, because it is a higher speed port. So my hope is the simple USB 2.0 to Ethernet RJ45 does the trick for LAN with my chunk of CAT 5E cable. (Appx 25 feet) Or my new routers take care of wirelessly giving me my remote location luxury. ?Sonny did you watch the video Brian did on the Mango router? I did this and was shocked at how easy it was and everything fell right in place for me. I usually struggle with stuff like that. I had a TP-Link and Randy Pufahl helped me get that going but I had issues with my ip changing in the gemini when I would turn it on. I don't remember the exact ip but it would be one thing one time and another next. Just kept going between those 2. When Brian did the video I decided to try it. Now my ip is set and I enjoy being able to use my laptop or my phone to verify I'm on the right star when I'm going through the modeling . Yea I'm new at this. lol? I have a dell xps L502x .?

Sonny i don't know for sure, but i read the details, and it seems promising. it says you probably don't even need driver software let us know when it arrives. at least now you have a guide for how to configure it! Greg MorrisActually, I was there, Greg. Don't have/use a video camera. But I posed questions that never got addressed, via the Chat that was provided. Another attendee did actually respond. But if you didn't have video set up.... So I sat back and basically watched, unable to actually participate. But oh yes, I was there. I'll figure it all out, count on it. But just like the 9 pin serial port is a thing of the past, and USB took over, RJ45 appears to be going the way of the do-do as well. except in certain business networking scenarios. Of which, most have been going fiber optic for decades. My >not that old< Win 10, 2 in 1, has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, and an HDMI port. So I'm backwards engineering it with an adapter to get Ethernet into it. It won't be hard, and with Brian's help I'll get all the X's and O's clicking along. ? -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

I actually got 2 so I'd have a spare) to incorporate the RJ45 connector into my too modern compooter. Meanwhile, back at the fence, my trusty dusty USB keeps my playing. LOL! I'll be in touch if the two videos don't get me there. ;^) ? -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

incorporate the RJ45 connector into my too modern compooter. that's kinda true. wifi is so prevalent that companies are removing the ethernet port from more recent laptops.? you have to buy an adapter to put it back in ! Yeah, I think so. But Ethernet cabling sounds appealing to me. I think of it as any-length-you-want USB. Which has raised another question: Can the other things (camera, guiding, focuser, and/or USB hub) be incorporated into the Gemini 2 Ethernet connection? Goal is a one cable does everything package. (I never ask the easy questions.) ? -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

Can the other things (camera, guiding, focuser, and/or USB hub) be incorporated into the Gemini 2 Ethernet connection? Goal is a one cable does everything package. not through Gemini, but it may be possible through a microRouter - someone would have?to test if you could run a USB camera through one of those adapters, but that ain't a half bad idea On Fri, Jun 19, 2020 at 1:22 PM Sonny Edmonds <sonnyedmonds@...> wrote: On Thu, Jun 18, 2020 at 08:38 PM, Brian Valente wrote: --

not through Gemini, but it may be possible through a microRouterWell, I have the Mango. And it has a USB port. If it can accept input from my USB hub, and send it down the LAN port to the computer, then it is doable. As it is, I have 3 cables. A USB, and 2 power sources. I prefer to keep the telescopes power separate from the mounts power. Less noise, and less fluctuations that way. I'll look into it. But still waiting on a way to get the Ethernet into a non-Ethernet compooter. ? -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

If it can accept input from my USB hub, and send it down the LAN port to the computer, then it is doable. i'm more thinking you would use a USB->ethernet adapter on those peripherals.? the USB port on the Mango is not a USB->ethernet adapter. although this could make for a good product idea ;) On Sat, Jun 20, 2020 at 8:39 AM Sonny Edmonds <sonnyedmonds@...> wrote: On Fri, Jun 19, 2020 at 01:34 PM, Brian Valente wrote: --

Hi Sonny,
One question: will the 15 feet of your USB cable be long enough to make it from your mount into your RV's table where you will want to control things from ? (if not, then, (no doubt your 15 foot usb cable is an "Active" cable (it has a tiny usb hub built into it)) do you have a second usb extension cable ? AND have you tried it connected to your existing extension cable (totalling 30 feet) ? AND if you tried it, do all your USB devices (cameras, filter wheel ?, etc)? still work with the 30 foot extension ? If you can have functional usb from your scope location into your RV, then it should be easy to setup the baby dells new ethernet/usb adapter to connect the Gemini-2 to your telescope usb hub, then run a single usb cable to your RV. I do that all the time, to transition from the wifi Telescope router (normal connectivity at home)? to the 'mobile' config (disable baby dell wifi, and plug the ethernet/usb adapter into the telescope usb hub). (the ethernet adapter is actually velcro'd right next to my usb hub mounted on my 12" tripod extension) If this is what you want to achieve, then the baby dell will 'remember' the network settings, and simply the act of disabling baby dell wifi, plugging in the ethernet adapter into the usb hub, and moving the Gemini-2's ethernet cable from the micro router into the ethernet adapter allows everything to work without any reconfiguration of IP's, etc. I'm sorry for getting long winded, but is your usb extension cable USB2 or USB3 ? With the combined traffic from 3 ZWO cameras, a SI focuser,? and the Gemini-2, I had to use a USB3 extension cable to get decent throughput. The weather at Joshua Tree looks great for tonight :) Astronut Tim |
