Going Auto with N.I.N.A

OK, since I'm one to Dilly-Daley until I feel like doing something, I got around to checking my NINA program with my equipment.
(It's in the office anyway since the weather is being bratty this week.) I've been dismantling my mount in the modules that work for me, and leaving the HD tripod set up, on the leveling pads. One less thing to carry out and back in. I cover it well with my canvas bag, a painters tarp, and my 32 gallon dome. Now after my trial of SGP expired, and I removed (Uninstalled) SGP, I decided to open my copy of again. At first, I opened my usual culprits Gemini, PHD2, Infinity Camera, and my AFF2 focuser software. Then opened NINA. I quickly saw the error of my ways, so I closed everything. Then I opened NINA, and went down the equipment list opening and checking everything from within NINA. I can say, NINA has had NO problems opening and operating ANY of my preferred equipment or programs. Including AFF2, my focuser. Which is an Arduino based hardware, and a control written by Tekky Dave in Great Britian. So what a great beginning compared to anything else I have tried! Now I'm going to go through for the modules I feel I will use. But, to me, it sure is nice to find a program with this much intuitiveness and ease of use. I expect to be Automated and Sequencing by the time the cows come home. Overjoyed! -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

Well, for those interested, if anybody, N.I.N.A. has been coming along fine for me in my testing indoors.
I can't do actual field tests because we have what my Mom always called it, June Gloom here where the Ocean tends to drive fog and clouds deep inland during June. So the sky is obscured during the nights. But so far, NINA has been doing me stellar. From a one click start up, to finding and tracking an object. I can't wait to get out and do actual sky time with it. I do have to "hand pick" my Main camera and start it. Don't know why, but I have 4 Atik Cameras in the drop down. the "3" works. And I don't know how to eliminate the others to make "3" the default. But coming from a very troublesome AVX mount, I can accommodate whatever glitch there is for now. -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |
Great to hear Sonny does NINA support the non fits output formats you want? On Tue, Jun 2, 2020 at 9:43 AM Sonny Edmonds <sonnyedmonds@...> wrote: Well, for those interested, if anybody, N.I.N.A. has been coming along fine for me in my testing indoors. --

Great to hear SonnyHi Brian, Yes, I currently have it set to record TIFF format. Which I can post, untouched, to an Astrophotography forum I'm a long time member of. I do that so budding folks interested in AP can download and try their hand at processing. I also post my own processed version of the same picture. Often new folks just want the chance to try their hand. I try to offer it to them. According to one of my phone apps, tonight should be clear enough to play outside. Dust off the 'Scopes! ;^) ? -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

I just try and find things away from the obnoxious Moon.
And there is always my Badder Moon and Sky Glow filter. But right next to it is my Badder HA7nm narrowband. I have imaged around the moon before, just to see if I could. And it worked. I have two sequences for tonight. One has the narrowband as the second sequence. (If it works. Fratzen-ratzen-ratzen fratzen. LOL! ) I'm still correcting my screw ups. I downloaded Cart du Ciel for NINA. But didn't know I had to do a bunch of setting up. Fixed that today. So we vill zee vatt vee vill zee. Hurry up darkness! If I wind up running this whore house by hand again, it won't be the first time by any means. Filimentary, and The Eagle Nebula were my aims. LOL! -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |

OK, so a frustrating night with NINA.
I realized I didn't quite have all the ducks in a row... I didn't know how to start an image. And in sequencing, I think the big arrow is supposed to start the sequence. But mine is always grayed out, and does nothing. So here I am back at the drawing board, and I suspect my Infinicky camera may (again) be a stumbling block. My weather it going to be crap until next week, it appears. So I'll be diggin and scratchin on this indoors again. Never a dull moment here. Sigh! -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |
Thanks Justin,
I'm still somewhat baffled. But make progress like a snail... Thank You for the pointer about the Looping Images. I suspect you are correct. Any pointers as to how to turn then off? As much as I find most manuals somewhat worthless, I think I need one. LOL! My screens don't appear to be anything like the ones in Cuiv's videos. I'm running the latest updates and version in N.I.N.A. But my screens don't look the same in some pages. And I haven't quite figured it out. But I am finding my errors in an eventual way. (Picture a snail crossing a boulevard to a new garden.) Then last night, we had afternoon winds that died down mid to late evening. I have my mount on 3 redwood board adjusters to get it level. I found when I went to stick my hand controller back on the Velcro, ESD (electro-static discharge) caused the Gemini 2 to momentarily shut off. (Surge protection, I believe) Back to square one. I got a long electrical jumper and bonded my mount to my table (metal/glass), and started over. It was the theme of the night, although I did quell the ESD, nothing seemed to work well after that. Not my first time dealing with ESD, so I will wet down my area, and do more bonding to ground out any static electricity. Sigh! Never a dull moment here. But at least Mr. Moon isn't the bother he was. Not even my old method would work not last night/this morning. I'm going to work on my software today. I will win. I always win. No matter how long it takes. I have high hopes for NINA. Any pointers you might share would be greatly appreciated. (Like, How do you shut off that looping???) -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |
Sonny,
The screen layouts in NINA are highly customizable. They are basically drag and drop. The clean, customizable interface is a big draw. It was for me. Sometimes I find myself having to hit the layout reset button (Options>Imagining>down in the bottom right) because I got a little too carried away moving things around. There is pretty good NINA documentation for the latest stable NINA release on their website. I run the nightly beta versions, as it sounds like you do. As far as turning the looping off, there's just a GUI toggle switch on the right side imaging page (unless you've moved it, lol). I've attached a screenshot. It took me a little while to get comfortable with NINA, but with some practice and cruising the NINA Discord server, I feel pretty good with it. Last night, I collected subs on the Cat's Eye Nebula and the Crescent Nebula. NINA handled it all while I slept. The unattended plate solving and autofocusing still seem like magic to me. Sorry to hear about the ESD issue. Hopefully nothing sensitive got fried. I run my mount over the ethernet, so I don't really have reason to touch it except to flip on the Gemini 2 power switch on and put my telegizmo cover over it in the morning after I turn it off.? I always feel like I'm about to drop the hand controller when it's in my hands. I usually just have it hanging in a neoprene bag hanging from one of the knobs. Clear skies, Justin |

And then it hit me...
My screens don't appear like yours, or like Cuiv's. And I can't make them even look like that. And then it hit me! I'm running 64 bit computers, but some of my programs, particularly my Atik Camera, only have 32 bit drivers. So the NINA site has a pop up on it about querying the manufacturer for 64 bit drivers. But I'm certian my backwards camera only runs 32 bit drivers. Just got to love how easy all this Astro babel is. So... I removed my 64 bit version of NINA, and installed the 32 bit version. FINALLY, I think I'm on the same page as most everyone else! Basic colors are right (not that it matters what the color scheme is), and Loop IS off. So I'm back at square 1 now. The right square, imagine that! I'm going to look around, because some things have again, auto populated it seems. Probably smegma from the previous 64 bit version. Probably from Windows Net files. But the previous settings seem to have propagated to the 32 bit version. -- SonnyE (I suggest viewed in full screen) |
Sonny , Justin is right and after few session you gonna love it and say "its the best" .?
I am 64 years old and now I am connecting to NINA all my equipment with one? Connect > Reconnect All Devices but not my mount G-11 Gemini I. Using automatic focuser ZWO EAF I am able to sleep :) I used G 11 from 1995 and from 2005 Gemini I and was never connected to the computer . Please if you guys know the way how to connect my old Gemini 1 to NINA? , please help with some basics steps right now . Thank you for your time . Cheers Roman |
