Hi Skycamper,
Yes, work it a bit and you should net $1,400-$1,500 if in good condition, complete with no broken or wonky stuff. Last summer I struggled with this question myself knowing what was coming from Losmandy in less than a year but my 15 year old G11 was in mint condition and I knew that it was capable of excellent tracking performance. So I kept it and updated the important parts and waited for Tanya to call me and tell me to pop in with the G11 for a the updates. Yes it cost me more but I had the use of the mount for the last year and knew what the worms in my mount were capable of and expected I to get similar performance with the G11G update. I can't complain as I tested my updated G11G with a 1600mm focal length OTA vs the usual 200mm fl guider using the same camera and software setup as before and the results were very similar, virtually identical actually.?
Oh I get it on the mounts and OTAs, I keep my office space picked up and as much as possible alls astro gear packed and out of sight to avoid any conversations about what she may have noticed, out of sight out of mind. This is an easy choice, clean it up and sell the G11 and buy a new G11G. Now that the G11Gs and other newline Losmandy mounts are available this will be the fastest way to get into the new mount and minimize any "mountless time."?
I have seen the oldest Losmandy mounts and the latest work from Losmandy's shop. Losmandy's QC is excellent and Scott's quality levels are quite high with no signs of going soft at all. I was concerned about the tucked in motors but those concerns were completely unfounded and my mount after the tucked in motor and other updates tracks and guides almost identically to pre-update levels. The G11 is a timeless mount and has been proven and improved over the last 25+ years. If anything Scott Losmandy's quality and surface finish levels have improved probably due largely to better design as seen on the new design OPW and some tool path work.?
