HGM 200 & GoTo
Hi List,
With all the talk about GoTo on the G-8 and G-11, I took a look
at the Losmandy web page and found that only the G-8 and G-11
are specified for use with the GoTo system.
Does anyone know if

Re: G11 stiction fix
Bill,
I agree with you that the DEC axis will require more clutch force to hold the scope than does the RA
axis because of it's orientation.
I'm glad we now have this group to discuss our ideas

Re: G11 stiction fix
Bill, you're absolutely right - the DEC setting is a balance between easy
to move, and having to hold the scope when you take out that heavy
eyepiece! It's not so bad on the MCT, but the large

Steve,
I don't know the answer to this paradox (perhaps Scott might be able
to chip-in and clear the ambiguity), but with a slew rate of several
degrees per second using servo motors, do you need

Re: G11 stiction fix
Yes, you are. In addition to the needle bearings in which the shaft
rides, there are thrust bearings under each worm gear. Think about it -
when the clutch is locked tight, and you move the DEC with

IMO you should have no problem using my fix photographically (is
there such a word??) Anyway, the other night, I observed M57 at 428x

Hi Bill,
How about photographic use? It seems that as long as the OTA is
balanced, things should be fine for photographic AND visual use.
It would seem that the G11 should come standard with

Hi Don, Yes, I'm sure the Radio Shack Lube will work fine also.
I guess the very most important thing is to know that these bearings are
not seized inside the mount, and are not hindered by dried

Re: G11 stiction fix
Bill,
If you are talking about the G11 both the DEC and RA are functionally identical as far as supporting
the weight. Both axes are supported by the large thrust needle roller bearing below the worm

Re: Disassembly of G-11
Mark,
I went to a local Radio Shack and bought Lube Gel (64-2326) for $2.99. It's in a 3 oz. gray tube and contains Teflon. Has worked fine so far.

full credit for the knowledge I have learned about tuning/maintaining

It's not the mount, it's the stepper. The GoTo servo motors will fix
that. I do have a different stepper you can try, and let me know how

I'd like to install encoders on my GM100. Has anyone accomplished this? If
so, how? TIA.
