Alex does use a timing belt, which is what I am trying to avoid. Getting back to the OP, there is actually good documentation on the OnStep Wiki about oscillations within a step.? Or better, cyclical

Re: Spring Loaded Worm Gear
My EQ8-R does not have one, but a CGXL does, and costs less than the EQ8-R. I have seen many very good reports of Guiding with the EQ8R, not sure about the CGXL, but a Celestron employee owns both and

Re: Spring Loaded Worm Gear
Whether you need the worm to be spring loaded very much depends upon the construction of the axis. Certainly, very high end mounts, like the Paramount ME, which I own, in addition to 5 Losmandy G11s,

The seasonal thing makes sense. Aluminum has a fairly huge rate of thermal expansion and contraction. It's about 2X that of steel and bronze falls in the middle of steel and aluminum.

Ryan- thanks so much for that detailed reply. I am torn mostly between the G11 and the CEM 70. The only issue I have found with the CEM 70, after doing a lot of reading, is that when controlling by

Hi John, I can¡¯t really comment on your other mount options as I only have my GM811. As for your questions, I¡¯ll answer in order: 1. Like peter said, you have three options in color scheme. You

John, That is a great question. The same question I was asking myself about a year ago before I ended up jumping into the G11 club. I came from an EQ6-R Pro and was looking for more

Re: Spring Loaded Worm Gear
My new EQ8-R Pro does not have spring loaded worm gears, its axes are very tight, the G11 axes will give a little as the spring compresses.? I have not done any guiding with either of these mounts

I am still trying to decide between the G11G and two other mounts (skywatcher CQ350, Ioptron CEM 70) for a C11.? I have a few other questions related to the G11G: 1. From the videos I watched, the

I don't have a permanent pier or an observatory. I have to carry my stuff all the time. So those nice pelican cases are not good for my back. I got an RA extender and have the mount split into two

Re: Spring Loaded Worm Gear
Spring loading is especially useful for taking up backlash when the axis changes direction during guiding. RA doesn't experience backlash during guiding since it doesn't reverse direction: it slows

Re: Spring Loaded Worm Gear
I realize the Dec Axis on the G11T has the spring-loaded worm gear, it actually is the same Dec Axis as the G11, but the RA Axis has no spring-loaded worm gear and I wonder why?
