I had a gear box separate like you describe - the plastic section separated
from the metal base plate.
I repaired the unit by doing the following¡.

Re: G-11 Gearbox Replacement
FWIW, I just got a new pair of gearboxes direct from Losmandy a few weeks ago, and yes they are the metal rivets.

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Henk,
That does not look all that sturdy to me; I would either change to a Losmandy width dovetail or upgrade to a better quality Vixen style.

Re: Polar alignment scope on the G11
A 5mm red led fits nearly perfectly in the threaded hole and can be powered
by one of those little 2 AA battery holders. If you have to buy the LED get
one that blinks on/off. Amazon has all this

Re: Telescope slip in the clamp
Hi Brian,
I attached two photos below.
You can see that the Vixen cut-out has a short base on the screw side of only a few mm wide.? It is easy to clamp the scope right below the cut-out.? If it

Re: Polar alignment scope on the G11
Hi Dave
you want the polar scope illuminator
http://store.losmandy.com/psi
alternately you can shine a red light into the illuminator hole, which is
kind of a hassle but free ;)

One of the accessories I bought with my mount was a camera mount DVCM. ( http://store.losmandy.com/dvcm )
I tried it once as a camera mount, but found it most useful as a stop for my D-style bar. (It

They are incredibly clear images. I swear I have found a massive tower in a crater which is casting a shadow on the lunar surface in your image.

Henk,
I don¡¯t have the dual Losmandy/Vixen saddle plate but I assume you open the gap sufficient to lower the entire dovetail into the slot.
I suggest this is not the safest approach, I have

I'm not aware of any issues with the G11 saddle clamp. As Paul mentioned, use a screw to stop the slide before it gets too far. A few things to watch out for:
