Re: Help with PemPro on G11/Gemini

Pic below with Gemini connected directly to home router ... HC still shows the direct Ethernet configuration settings I used and Gemini is not showing up on the list devices connected to my home network.

I was referring to your comment on the 'erratic behavior', not the availability of features. Understood on the PEC part

No, just bring your hand controller along and when you cold start, put it in terrestrial tracking so you don't have to listen to it beeping. Just remember to re-set back to sidereal when you put it back on your mount

As for the suggestion of connecting the Gemini directly to my home router, I will need to disconnect the Gemini 2 unit from the mount to do this. ? Re: Issues With Losmandy Polar Scope and QHY PoleMaster

Jim,

I have an i5 NUC 8 system and it shows the same Device Security error but it is related to Core Isolation (ala Virtualization security protection) and not due to the QHY system. I have the 168C QHY and Polemaster units and they seem to be working fine for me on my older generation NUC.?

The drivers are just under a year old so new ones are needed given their camera releases. Have you tried the beta drivers which require some cameras to be firmware upgraded?

Agree it is a pain if they have platform support issues with the drivers - good luck.

Ken

Re: Losmandy GM8/GM11 Encoder Kit

This type of encoders are great for turning manual Alt-Az mounts or even dobsonians into semi-goto systems.? For a GEM, once you have goto capability its cost and hassle is hard to justify. OTOH, a retrofitting kit for turning the G11G2 into a G11G-EC would be great!!

Re: Metaguide?

Hi Michael

>>>Are there any Metaguide enthusiasts among us??

I had a recent few months where I used metaguide intensively, both to see if it was better than PHD, and also to learn its approach to guiding (it's also a great way to fine-tune collimation)

overall I found the quality of guiding might be about the same/slightly better than PHD2, but it was not as easy to set up for automation. I couldn't get it to guide correctly after meridian flips (at least, automatically), it had a hard time finding guidestars when not being attended, and overall the software experience just felt more rough than PHD.?

I asked about in the forums CN etc. several times and found very few users and little to no response on my questions
?
I eventually reverted to PHD2, just fouhd?it was more reliable for automation

It's kind of a shame because metaguide's core idea and basic results seem promising.?

Did I mention it's quite good for collimation?

Re: Help with PemPro on G11/Gemini

The mesh network may be causing issues

I suggest?you try plugging in the Gemini via ethernet to your main router's ethernet port and see if that works

>>> I am seeing odd behavior when I calibrate via PHD2 -- I typically see erratic movement/steps in both RA and DEC, more specifically, there will be steps that don't move after a guide pulse, surge forward, or even move backwards on both axis. I am guiding using an OAG @ 2800 mm, so perhaps this is due to seeing and/or PE effects. ? Very curious to see if this behavior changes using a direct ethernet connection.

It would be better to see the guidelog than guess at what 'erratic' might mean ;) 2800mm brings it's own challenges re: image scale and if you're fiddling with PEC, if you have enabled PEC but it's not a good curve, it can cause issues as well. No PEC is better than Bad PEC?

Generally the computer-mount comm performance won't be any different in USB vs Ethernet. it's just a 9600 baud connection, very low data flow.?

Yes, I recently installed them on my G11G, but only so the mount would ¡°know¡± it¡¯s position after a push-to. They work just fine for that, but don¡¯t in any way interact with the standard encoders that came with the mount. They do nothing at all to aid in guiding performance.?

Re: Help with PemPro on G11/Gemini

Hi Bret

just typing in the IP address isn't going to work. your Gemini isn't getting its ip address from your router, so something isn't connecting correctly

Make sure your router is fully powered on and working before you power up the gemini

we did a tutorial here that walks you through it:

These encoders are for use with a digital setting circles computer. They cannot be used for guiding.?

If you have a guiding issue please post what you are using and what the problem looks like and we'll be happy the help.
