Re: Help with PemPro on G11/Gemini

The mesh network may be causing issues

I suggest?you try plugging in the Gemini via ethernet to your main router's ethernet port and see if that works

>>> I am seeing odd behavior when I calibrate via PHD2 -- I typically see erratic movement/steps in both RA and DEC, more specifically, there will be steps that don't move after a guide pulse, surge forward, or even move backwards on both axis. I am guiding using an OAG @ 2800 mm, so perhaps this is due to seeing and/or PE effects. ? Very curious to see if this behavior changes using a direct ethernet connection.

It would be better to see the guidelog than guess at what 'erratic' might mean ;) 2800mm brings it's own challenges re: image scale and if you're fiddling with PEC, if you have enabled PEC but it's not a good curve, it can cause issues as well. No PEC is better than Bad PEC?

Generally the computer-mount comm performance won't be any different in USB vs Ethernet. it's just a 9600 baud connection, very low data flow.?

Yes, I recently installed them on my G11G, but only so the mount would ¡°know¡± it¡¯s position after a push-to. They work just fine for that, but don¡¯t in any way interact with the standard encoders that came with the mount. They do nothing at all to aid in guiding performance.?

Metaguide?

Are there any Metaguide enthusiasts among us?? I briefly confirmed that it works with my GM811G, but I have no feel for how it compares to PHD2 (I did only a brief test).? I have already confirmed that PHD2 works well.

I also did a brief PEMPRO session and confirmed that I can program PEC on my new GM811G, although I need to do a longer session to get better data.? Initial results are not bad at all, even from only half an hour of training.

I'm connecting the Gemini-2 ethernet port to the LAN port on one of my Google WiFi mesh units:

Re: Help with PemPro on G11/Gemini

Hi Bret

just typing in the IP address isn't going to work. your Gemini isn't getting its ip address from your router, so something isn't connecting correctly

Make sure your router is fully powered on and working before you power up the gemini

we did a tutorial here that walks you through it:

Hi Mengan,

These encoders are for use with a digital setting circles computer. They cannot be used for guiding.?

If you have a guiding issue please post what you are using and what the problem looks like and we'll be happy the help.

Yes, that's correct

Sorry i re-read the op which I thought was guide mode, but i missed the center part. TVC only affects guide speed

Can you confirm TV works when speed is set to "Center"?

Re: Start up issues after connecting HC to wrong socket

I would also suggest replacing the coin cell in the Gemini-2.? If somebody told me their Gemini-2 would partly boot up and then get hung, that's what I'd think the problem is.? It's possible your cabling mishap had no real effect at all, but the coin cell happens to have run down.? It's the main cause of Gemini-2 weirdness.

I think that if you had killed your hand controller or port, you would not have seen any Gemini menus on it at all.

Re: Start up issues after connecting HC to wrong socket

Jeff crossing Ra/DEC cables is an oldie but a goodie that everyone does, me, more than once.

As for connecting to a computer.....? Start at the first page, read it al especially the tutorials and watch the videos and ?? .? There is lots to absorb Many ways to connect, the easiest is thru the "USB B? port" (not the USB A)? and use Gemini ASCOM.??? The preferred way is using the as its much more feature rich.??

My question.....did you try the Serial/GPS port with the HC??? Did it work or is it working with the HC port?

You have to get into the web interface first and set the .? If you have trouble look at the videos and or ...yes you need the HC for this.

Re: Losmandy GM8/GM11 Encoder Kit

Mengnan - I believe those encoders are used with DSC devices for visual push to capabilities. I don't believe those are accurate enough to assist in ap guiding. There exist more accurate ones, but they cost significantly more.?

Re: Start up issues after connecting HC to wrong socket

At this point I would have no idea how to run my mount with my PC. I have crossed my Dec and RA but didn¡¯t have any issues except for some confusion when up/down turned into left/right.

Re: Start up issues after connecting HC to wrong socket

Maybe if I left off the inexpensive part and just put ¡°money is no object¡± instead? It¡¯s all okay. We generally get what we pay for.

Thanks Michael! I appreciate your input.

Re: rehab a G11

Hopefully you have good hand eye coordination??As mechanical things go a G11 is pretty damn simple. We aren't workin' with watches here.

Three years isn't a long time in the life of a G11, OTOH, 30 without service is. There are folks in your club who will be glad to help you get started and experienced hands here to provide advice if you get stuck.
