Several years ago I took my g11 to losmandy to have the clutch material replaced,? cleaned and lubed.? When I got it back,? the first thing I noticed was the increased stiffness during balancing.? I attributed this to the lube as it wasn't so stiff before taking it in.? I read about the wavy washer to get rid of this but,? as I thought about it,? that stiffness would ensure worm to ring gear engagement and is equivalent to making the balance heavy as you described.? I'm not sure I'm right but logically it seems the same to me.? Also,? the stiffness doesn't seem to impact operation.? Just a thought.?

Hi Chuck,
Possibly. If it's just the density of the grease that's causing the stiffness, then it might help keep the worm wheel from suddenly jumping between the worm teeth. Any other kind of mechanical binding might also help with this, but could also cause other problems with the mount.
