Frequency Dropping
4
Hey guys, Using my Tx500 and JS8, I have an issue where JS8 will drop the frequency 500Hz at the end of every Tx stage with or without continuous transmit on. I tried on normal and every 15s a drop, and turbo every 6s a drop. Any ideas? Thank you

BP500 Questions
62
Hi group, As soon as I learned that HRO had this item listed I went ahead and ordered it. They are obviously filing back orders so I will receive mine when they catch up. In the mean time I have some questions: The 18650 batteries come in different capacities such as 2000mAh, 4000mAh, 6000mAh. This might seem like a dumb question but here goes...I realize 6 of the 6000mAh will have more capacity than 6 of the 2000mAh, but is that ok to use 6 of the 6000mAh or even higher capacity if they exist without overloading the charge circuit? I have several of these batteries already from other projects with various capacities from 2000 - 6000mAh. Is it OK use various capacities 18650 batteries in the BP500 realizing I will have the sum total of the individual battery capacities? I think some of these batteries have a battery management system built into each cell. I could be wrong but if they do offer that option should I purchase those type of batteries? This one is going to involve some math. Currently with my TX-500 I use an external Bioenno 9 Ah battery and it last all day running 10 watts of SSB. When I receive the BP500 and install and fully charge 6 of the 6000mAh batteries will that more or less capacity than my Bioenno 9 Ah battery? I'll take a stab it since I'm an extra...6 x 6000 is 36000mAh or 3.6 Ah? So it's less than my 9AH Bioenno? I like that fact that you can connect a solar panel directly to the BP500 with its wide voltage range that it supports up to 50V. I have an Anker 625 solar panel that I've measured the unloaded voltage with my DVM to be 28 volts at full sunlight brightness. It's also a panel capable of producing a 100 watts of power. Will this be safe to use with the BP500? What purpose is the 3A fuse for on the BP500? Finally can I operate the radio while connected to my solar panels? Since it doesn't involve a solar controller and connects directly to the BP500 the radio hopefully will not pick up the noise commonly generated by solar controllers. I know a lot of questions but I would appreciate any input on the questions you know the answers to. As always, Best 73 K9AT

New Battery Pack?

I called my "local" HIHI HRO store to see if they had BP500's yet and the guy said they've been discontinued and a newer, better battery pack was coming. Anyone else heard that? TX DE Mark WL7BCT AP90bs

Bad Birdie
7
Hi everyone, I¡¯ve been meaning to ask this question for a long time but haven¡¯t got around to it. On my LAB599 radio I have a bad birdie at 14.336. I¡¯m wondering if others are experiencing this birdie with their radios too? Best 73, David K9AT

VFO encoder replacement part number?
Hi folks, The VFO encoder on my tx-500 (purchased mid 2021) is starting to throw the occasional glitch so I suspect it's on its way out. Before I open up the radio to investigate, does anyone know the part number and/or UK supplier for this encoder? Cheers, Ronan MM0IVR

An issue that doesnt always pop up
9
Hey guys, Operating JS8 through digirig (Tx500 version) and flrig, and it will occasionally stay in transmit or fault out to a funky screen where the frequency is supposed to be. Got an error today after some trouble shooting. Im adding pictures. Any ideas? It operated well for weeks and all of a sudden this popped up again. Any assistance is appreciated!

Has anyone connected the TX-500 to a Micro PA50 Amplifier?
4
I see that several of you have connected the Lab599 TX-500 to an MX50 QRP Amp, but has anyone connected it to the Micro PA50 Amp? If so can you please share the cable setup you used? Thanks

US Support for TX-500
6
Probably already known information but just thought I would post this: Unfortunately, our service partner in Reno is no longer able to provide services for the maintenance of our company's products due to health reasons. We will publish information about the new service center in the USA in the near future. With best regards, Roman Lab599 support team If that doesn't happen before too long and I find myself needing service I cannot provide for myself, I'll probably just shelve the rig or sell it for parts/not working and go with something that has decent support. -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

Transmit Delay Setting
3
Many HF radios have a setting for "Transmit Delay" to delay the start of RF to a linear amplifier to make sure that the amp's relay is closed before RF hits it to avoid hot-switching the amp. I don't know of any such setting in the TX-500. Is there any reason why it would not have that feature? Perhaps the TX-500 designers didn't think anyone would use a linear amp with it? Overheating with BP500
6
Trying my BP500 for the first time today, and didn't get very far. I started up and was only recieving, but the radio screen intermittently said "HOT!". I was outside, in the shade, and the temperature was only a few degrees above freezing. The radio/battery didn't even feel warm, let alone hot, to the touch. Had been using an external battery with the TX500 for several months and never had that problem. I suspect the BP500 rather than the radio is having problems, but no idea where to start looking. Any ideas?

Blown Audio Chip
44
Today I blew out my audio chip. I knew better but just was not thinking. I was using a random wire antenna with one radial and I had the radio within two feet of the feed point. I was using a Mat10 auto tuner. All was well on 20 meters but when I went to tune up on 17 meters there was a squeal in the headphones then nothing. I was using a short adapter that I made to plug a set of earbuds into. I have had the radio for over a year and have used it with many different antennas with no issues. This is the first time I have used this particular antenna. Usually I used tuned antennas either short verticals or efhw antennas. It probably would have been okay if I had just moved the radio further from the antenna, I just had a senior moment and payed for it. Luckily, I ordered 3 spare audio chips, now I have two spares. The radio is repaired and ready for action. I really wish there was a fix for this issue, maybe some added caps but it is beyond my pay grade to figure it out. From now on I will be more careful and I will not be using that antenna again with my TX500. Larry n0sa

BP500 summary - from those who have one - summary thread
6
I've been following along on some of the bp500 posts - charging, returns, availability, etc. For those of you that have one, and have been using it - what is your overall impression? Are you happy with it: build/operation/etc? What is your runtime? Recharging in the shack/via solar. Would you recommend it? I am very interested, but sometimes the overall impressions and satisfaction get lost in the details and minutiae. Thanks for your thoughts. Jim

TX-FIL1 and TX-FIL 2?
7
I recently updated firmware from V1.10.10 to the current V1.20.03 with no problems. In some ways it is like getting a new rig; as I haven¡¯t used the TX-500 in over a year and with new firmware update I have a number of new menu items to check out. I programmed the TX filters so TX-FIL1 is the wideband ragchew filter, and TX-FIL2 as the narrower DX filter. However, regardless of which RX-FIL I have selected, when I hit the PTT, the rig always reverts to the TX-FIL1 ragchew filter. What am I missing here? What does it take to select/program the desired filter? I spent an evening reading the latest version of the manual as well using various terms and the search function of this forum and am still unable to answer my own question. I posted here as I don¡¯t use Facebook. TNX 73 Doug KD0LTJ

CAT control with Split problem
2
Has anyone here used CAT control (Kenwood protocol) with Split operation? I sometimes like to use the TX-500 in the shack and connect it to the DXLab Suite for rig control and logging. When working CW split, the VFO's (A and B) appear reversed in the rig control application before I transmit, showing that I will be transmitting on the DX station's transmit frequency and listening on the DX station's listening frequency, when of course it should be the opposite. When I actually transmit, the VFO's reverse showing that I am indeed listening and transmitting on the correct frequencies, until I stop transmitting. This is not working as it should. I checked with the DXLab Suite developer, and his TS-2000 is working correctly, showing correct frequencies before and after transmitting (with no VFO reversals like I am seeing). In addition to this being confusing, it causes spots to be incorrect, showing the DX station on the wrong frequency (my transmitting frequency instead of his) with corresponding auto-generated spot note to also show (for example) " *down* 2" instead of " *up* 2". It is believed that the problem is in the TX-500 implementation of the Kenwood protocol. I sent a description to Roman (TX-500 Support) but was wondering if anyone has ever observed this behavior. -- 73, Norm/KC1BMD

Tripod Mount Suggestions
2
Hello Everyone, I have been trying out different solutions for holding the display upright or on a slightly less angle from the legs the 599 tx500 provides. I came up with a cellphone tripod mount for a small metal tripod. While it is definitely working I am always looking for something better. Do you have any ideas? Please share. Thanks!
