TX-500 and DigiRig Interface / Cables - Any Guides?
45
I just ordered a set of the TX-500 cables and the newest version of DigiRig interface today. Has anyone put out or posted a 'how to' for the configuration of the radio and WSJT-X? I'll be wanting to try this on some SOTA ops soon, if someone has a guide out there - it would be a tremendous help! Thanks in advance! 73, W4UYE

Operating *while* backpacking
4
Hello everybody, Im sure some of you know of armoloq radio frames, if not, theyre pretty awesome. Problem is, the owner doesnt have a system thatll work for the tx500. My idea would be to operate while backpacking. Not stop and deploy, but have the mic attatched to my shoulder and Tx as im packing down the trail. If i could find a decent way to mount the rig in/on a similar system like an armoloq and in a "pouch" on my pack, i could find a way to power the rig and place an antenna on myself and operate while backpacking. I know its kind of a unique problem as deploying is ideal; but, i think this would be fun to do. Anyone have any ideas? 73s and thanks for any responses!

Power out
3
Hello all, I haven't played with the 599 for a few months and did the firmware updates. I noticed that the power out isn't what it used to be. In the past, on digital modes I would get 12-14 w output and would dial my power out down to keep from over driving. Now no matter what I do I cant seem to get more than 6 watts out on any band. Whistling into the mic will get tops of 7 watts on 20m. CW will get the full 10 (actually 11 watts) out. I know ssb is tough to get true power out readings but digital should be higher, 20m FT8 with a 1.1 swr im only showing 3.9w out. Am I missing a setting or something? -- 73 Tim KF7VUT SKCC # 12611T

Anyone use TX-500 with K45 CW modem?
7
I don't (yet) know CW, but plan to have part of my learning path be to listen to signals while watching decodes. I just picked up a K45 CW modem for this and am curious about if someone has already paired this modem with the TX-500 and can give advice to help me get started. Advice about using the device itself would be appreciated, but I am most interested in details on getting everything connected together and configured to limit troubleshooting time. Thanks KB9KMB

Faulty mic?
7
Hey guys, So I¡¯m still trying to dial my voice settings with a websdr server. I¡¯m using these baseline settings: MIC 5 CMR 5 EQ RX, LF: 45, MF: 70, HF: 85 EQ TX, LF: 45, MF: 70, HF: 85 TX FIL 1, LF: 300, HF 3000 TX FIL 2, LF: 350, HF: 2700 The problem is, I need to set the MIC gain to about 60 in order to even get reading of 3-4 on the MIC scale and to hear myself on the websdr. I would probably not be concerned wasn¡¯t there a consensus here on not to exceed MIC gain 5. Earlier today I even had a signal report saying I sounded muffled though I can¡¯t confirm that tonight hearing myself. Do I have a faulty mic? Is it hard of hearing? It¡¯s the stock mic. I operate digital mostly and everything works OK on that end.

TX-500 DigiRig with Winlink?
7
Got my DigiRig cables and interface, and it works like a top on WSJT-X without an issue. But, I've tried everything I can think of with Winlink and still can't get it to work. Any pointers? Thanks in advance! 73, W4UYE

10m/2m transverter tests with TX-500 and KX2
7
Hi all I bought a more or less cheap 10m/2m transverter from https://transverters-store.com/ and gave it a try with my KX2 and of course my TX-500. All frequency messurments were made with a highly precise frequency counter. All components were switched on 30min before tests started. The first tests were to see the frequency offset between the display on the TRX and if there is any drift. Offset was taken in receive mode and drift was taken sending out a CW signal for 30sec HF Power was set to 5 watts. Transverter not connected. TX-500: 7 MHz offset 11Hz / Drift ~ 1Hz every 10 sec 10 Mhz offset 31Hz / Drift ~ 1Hz every 10 sec 14 Mhz offset 45Hz / Drift ~ 10 Hz every 10 sec 28 MHz offset 73Hz / Drift ~ 73(!) Hz every 10 sec KX2: 7 MHz offset 5Hz / Drift ~ 1Hz every 10 sec 10 Mhz offset 25Hz / Drift ~ 1Hz every 10 sec 14 Mhz offset 40Hz / Drift ~ 1 Hz every 10 sec 28 MHz offset 70Hz / Drift ~ 5 Hz every 10 sec The display offset is little better on the KX2 and less drift, but really not much. But BUT, I compared the values to an FT-817ND with installed TXCO, The display offset was about the same, but NO drift at all! Then I used the 10m/2m transverter. TX-500 Display offset increased by 400Hz and drift increased by 10Hz every 10 sec KX2: Display offset increased by 400Hz as well and drift increased by 10Hz every 10 sec There is a transverter with installed TXCO, but mine has none. In real-outdoor-field-operations there shouldn't raise any problem. The TX-500 is running digi-modes just fine. To be honest I am not a pro when it comes to HF mesurements, just a normal Ham :-) 73 stay save and healthy Stephan -- DF6PA Licensed since 1978 TX-500, KX2, IC-703, FT-817ND https://www.qrz.com/db/DF6PA

Digital mode filters

Howdy, Does anybody know if there is a way of manually adjusting the passband filter in digital mode? It¡¯s fine in SSB but digital forces you to use a preset width. Is that a bug? Thanks & 73

Audio pin out questions
2
A friend of mine not in this group asked Lab599 via email for some information. He never got a response from them. if you are directly familiar with exact knowledge please respond as I have no desire to be a middleman of misinformation. this is a direct quote from him ¡± I asked them if the provided headset adapter used mono or stereo connectors for mic and for phones, what voltage was on the mic line, and what the mic impedance range was. I was/am having trouble figuring out why some headsets work and others don't, all of which are supposedly compatible type.¡± thanks in advance

Windcamp GoBox

Has anyone purchased the GoBox from Winccamp and have a comparison to the one costing 4x as much from Lab599? I see one obvious difference being the lack of pocket on the inside top lid. WSJT-X Oddities using Digirig
4
Fun little problem I have. Using the provided adapter serial to gx12 connector, WSJT-X can communicate with the TX-500. I tested this with WSPR mode. I still needed the digirig to perform soundcard duties. I only found this to work by accident, sort of. I decided to update my firmware to the latest when my digirig wasn't controlling the TX-500. After updating I tested the digirig serial connection again and still nothing. I was able hear the radio switching to transmit over the digirig connection, but the hamlib libraries didn't like the response. Then I saw the connection I just updated the firmware with and I had an ah-ha moment for troubleshooting. I connected the firmware update cable and I was able to control the radio. Anyone seen this before? Any thoughts on how to resolve. I really would like the digirig to control the radio, as I would also like to use those cables with my mobilinkd TNC.

CW Memories
4
Am I missing something? I see at the Lab 599 website: CW keyer memory with 4 cells for 20 seconds each I have just upgraded to frm v 1.16.6 and still only see two cw messages assigned to the upper F keys. Is there some setting I need to change to expose the other 2? I sure hope 4 are available now. 2 is just not enough for my needs. TU & 72 de W6BFK

Request extended Feature in future firmware
Dear LAB599 and community I noticed that the message lenght in the CWS Memory (character length) for preimposing a CW message is very short. It is so short that I can not even preimpose a three time cq call, de, and three callsigns. Is it possible that you can reserve a bit more memory, at least to input a standard CW call as stated above? I¡¯m otherwise very happy with your product. I think you are focusing on the right priorities. Thank you and regards Pier, HB3XEY, 73

Updates question
3
I'm at v. 1.16.04 and I'm wondering if each firmware update includes previous updates or not. I'm not 100% understanding what Lab599 means by saying updates are cumulative. Thanks, de Mark WL7BCT

Connection caps
6
Good afternoon all. I am new to the group and new to the tax-500. Just ordered one from HRO and expecting delivery late this coming week. I have great expectations for this radio and I hope it doesn¡¯t disappoint. I have a question about connector caps. Does anyone else besides 3Ddesigns make protection caps for the connectors on the tax-500? Thanks in advance. JT
