Fixing screws for BP-500 Battery Pack

Those of you who are BP-500 users might like to consider the above to make the Pack more readily removable from the radio (perhaps for charging?).

Accu is a UK supplier, but similar products seem to be universally available. Polished types are more readily available, but who wouldn't want black anodised stainless steel?

More flush mounting types are also available, but the shoulder on this model (known as "High" Thumb Screws from this supplier) would seem to be important to enable it to clear the thickness of the battery cover. I don't have the BP-500 myself yet, so perhaps an owner could comment on how deep they think that shoulder needs to be?

The image shows a 10mm thread length, but other lengths are available.

Hi Bob,
The screws are M4 x 25mm. I'll measure the shoulder when I get a chance as I like the idea of these.
I just bought the BP500 from desert wireless. Came really quickly, but did get nailed with import duty?
It really is excellent, you can charge whilst it's on the tx500, but I do like the idea of being able to remove it quickly without an Allen key.
I'm also interested in UK supplier for a roll out solar panel.?
73s
Tom 2E0TDV?

Sorry if this is a hi jack, but I am very curious about the roll out solar panel mentioned by Tom.

And thanks so much for the thumb screw idea!! ?That looks great.

Thanks,?

Hi Mike,

It was these I'd seen - U.S. made?
Seen them used with the TX500 in a few YouTube videos

Thanks Tom. ?A great looking product line. ?A bit outside my financial comfort level. ?

Bob, how many of these are needed?

I'm hampered a bit by not having one of these in my hands, Randy, but I downloaded the User Manual for the BP (which is quite useful).

Four would be required, note that these are M4 (the originals are 25mm long) whereas the screws which hold the battery compartment cover into the BP are M3, and six are required. Both sets of screws normally fit flush into recesses, and two hex Allen keys are provided with the BP-500.

As we've already mentioned, the shoulder on the proposed screws appears to be necessary to enable the knurled part to clear the thickness of the battery cover, but I'm a little concerned as the diagram suggests that the edge of the battery compartment cover comes right up to the edge of the M4 hole, meaning that the diameter of the shoulder on the proposed screws might also foul the edge of the cover.

Anyone already in possession of a BP-500 care to comment?

You need 4 Randy, but I'm not sure if thumb screw types will work, as the screws sink into the battery case (top of screws are slightly lower than the battery case). Also note they are M4 x 25mm
