CW KEY

John Dziedziejko

Hi Everyone,

Having a little issue with changing from straight key to iambic in the menu. My straight key works when in straight key mode, when switching to iambic and plugging my iambic key it doesn¡¯t work. I tried all 3 of my iambic keys and none will work.?

Is there a setting to turn the keyer on or are all the connectors on my iambic keys wired incorrectly?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.?

Thanks and 73.

Hi John - Are you using the same cable for all the keys??

Just trying to think through the troubleshooting.?

Hi Steve,

Each of my iambic keys have their own cable with stereo plug. Possibly the cable provided with the LAB599 may be the problem?

That is exactly what I am thinking. I would confirm continuity with a meter and make certain the cable checks out.?

I finally figured out my problem with setting up iambic key in the menu. Under CW Speed I set it to 15. Not knowing that this number doesn't correspond to our wpm. When I adjusted CW Speed up to 75 the iambic key is working properly now.

Thanks & 73.

Great news John! Glad to hear it's working for you.?

John,

when you set it to 75 what is the wpm?
I normally send at 12wpm but if I set the speed to 90 it sends at 11wpm. Going to 92 it is much higher.

Hi Yvon,

I don¡¯t remember exactly what the speed difference is but I would adjust accordingly to your most comfortable speed. Have a great weekend.?

My understanding was that it was characters per minute?

divide by 5 for WPM

not sure where I saw this

Marc, that makes sense. 75/5 = 15wpm. I tried and that works. The funny think is that when I received the radio I did set it at 60 thinking it was showing divide by 10 and multiply by 2.
By accident it worked as 12wpm is my speed. A few days ago, I don't remember why, I changed the setting and ended up at 90 where RBN was showing 11wpm and increasing to 95
would jump much higher than I can send. Now I put it at 75 and t looks like about 14wpm.
I think my confusion came from what I just discovered: when sending the stored message it is send at the speed it was recorded not the speed you have now set. Which makes sense,
as someone else reported in a previous message that they record the audio not the characters.
Thanks to all who replied.

I found the following a good estimation: (CWSPEED-10)/5 gives the WpM.

CWSPEED WpM
80 14
90 16
100 18
110 20
120 22
130 24
140 26

I use my TX-500 since almost 1 year mainly in CW. Enjoying it every single day!
