Connecting with Ham Radio Deluxe

Trying to get my radio to work with HRD I have tried the Kenwood 590 protocol as well as the TS2000 protocol they connect but will not read frequency so don't connect I used the default comm speed and then put it down to 9600 but to no avail, what are other settings users are using, btw it is the latest version of HRD 391

The developer of fldigi/flrig owns a TX500 and successfully uses both for digital and CW with the transceiver.

I can't recreate the issue, but I don't use HRD

It tells you that it is PROBABLY HRD. All of the native applications using FLRIG or Omnirig are working within the limits of the TX-500s CAT protocol support.?

Best?regards and good?luck with HRD.

Great, I am much better off for that information

John, thanks you are probably right, but I have to reach out to people who have solved this problem. I will be working on it.?

I am using HRD with my TX-500 with the TS-2000 and it's working as good as it can.? You can see and control VFO frequencies but don't expect to have many of the other Kenwood features working as the TX-500 uses only a few of the Kenwood protocol commands.? the TX-500 manual gives a list of the commands supported.

Please contect HRD support and ask them to write a new radio driver just for the TX-500.? You can even reference the feature request I've already placed with them. #3923 in their Mantis tracking system.

Update:?Primarily a CW op.

Same issue here. HRD version 6.7.0.391. Tried several Kenwood models but no connection (cannot read frequency). I know the CAT cable supplied with the TX-500 is good because I just updated the firmware to the latest. Someone said they use the TS2000 but that does not work when I tried. The TX-500 manual says to choose "Kenwood" but some logging and rig control programs have drop down menus to select a specific model. Has anyone gotten this to work and if so, what settings did you use?
?

I'm guessing not many people are using HRD, at least with the TX-500. Can anyone recommend a logging program (rig control would also be nice but not necessary) so I could log contacts, capture operating frequency and output the file as a?.adif / .adi file for import into my shack logging programs?

FYI: contacted HRD support (Ferry). He had me try a few settings changes but nothing worked. He asked if WSJT-X can connect, so he could rule out whether HRD was the problem or not. I don't use that app, so I have no idea. I had a question in to Lab599 support but I'm not expecting and miracle fix.

Can you post a screenshot of your settings ?

Edited

Settings are as specified in TX-500 manual and I provided them to HRD Support. I also tried Auto Detect for port and speed... no good.

I don't use WSJT-X but downloaded the latest version anyway (2.5.4). I set the radio to TS-2000 baud rate to 9600 and selected the COM port recognized when the USB cable from the radio to PC was connected. It can successfully read the radio's frequency and track it as it changes, so I'm guessing there is a problem with HRD. I notified HRD about it.

UPDATE:?By trying various combinations of DTS, DTR and RTS, I was able to connect. One combination that works is all unchecked. I'm using the TS-2000 but some other Kenwood models can also connect. I have no rig control but frequency/band information can be read and tracked and that's all I need for logging with the HRD logbook.

Glad to see others are requesting HRD to create a real TX-500 driver.? I've been waiting over a year for this since I first reported to HRD that this needs to be fixed.

Support request #20904 TX-500 Radio interface

Information from Roman (Lab599 Support):

The TX-500 transceiver only supports the Kenwood TS-2000 protocol command set: ID; AI; RX; TX; IF; FA; FB; MD (6-DIG); FR; FT; FN; PA; RA
The protocol does not support commands such as AF Gain, RF Power, Keyer settings.
The TX-500 transceiver was developed primarily as an ultraportable field transceiver for outdoor use in difficult conditions, and it was supposed to be used as an independent self-sufficient unit.

So, I would not expect much to be done by HRD development on this.
