eHam Review Submitted

I have submitted my eHam review of the TX-500.? Current status is "awaiting approval".

Henry, just read your review very well written but in reading it thoroughly the fact there is not enough memory to upgrade certain functions is pushing me into the Icom 705 zone, although the construction of this radio still tries to win me over, 73 Geoff?

With this information and the fact HRO does not even answer any email I send them (I will never ever buy from HRO again) I have cancelled my order going the Icom 705 way, what a shame

Geoff,

Just saw your subsequent note about getting the 705.? Regardless, I will respond to this note.?

I am not a software person and don't try to understand the inner workings of memory chips and a program. However, I am surprised that with the TX-500 memory capability to support 4 CW messages of 25 seconds, it cannot support 1 voice message of say 10 seconds.? I do remember that the DVR function for the Elecraft K3 was a separate small board with two large IC chips.? So, there may be a valid reason why the current configuration cannot support voice messages.? If so, then that was a poor decision by the designers, in my opinion.? When I look at the POTA spots, there are a lot of guys using voice.? The only external DVR unit that I am aware of is the MFJ unit.? I used one of them for years with several older radios and they work well.? It's just too big.

Maybe someone can develop an iPhone app that can then be used via a USB cable to connect to the TX-500 REM/DATA or CAT ports.

I hope you get a 705 quickly and are happy with it.

Geoff,

Just tell the staff at the Fairmont that it's a fancy clock radio with built-in virus detection/elimination and security shield.? And...it will be featured in the next 007 movie.? They'll be impressed and you will feel good about the money spent.? And if you need more impressive features - heart defibrillator, language translator, drone controller, GPS scrambler, and phone charger.

Have fun!

It is with a heavy heart and a lighter bank balance I have ordered my Icom 705 from Main Trading Company (excellent traders) I was never going to climb mountains anyway my idea of camping is a suite at the Fairmont SF!

Henry, you know I never heard back from HRO not once even after I asked for my money back, I finally put a dispute in with PayPal and today they returned my money, good luck with anyone else who ordered from HRO. I ordered my Icom 705 from Main Trading Company, 73 Geoff

Geoff,

My only recent experience with HRO was with the TX-500 purchase.? I placed my order in late July through the Woodbridge, VA on-line store and received email confirmation.? A few days later I received a phone call from a staff member there giving me the status of shipment - that being sometime in October instead of September.? At the end of September as I was preparing for several business trips over the month of October, I called them just to check on the current status.? They indicated it was looking like mid-October.? Imagine my surprise when a few days later I received an email indicating that my TX-500 was being shipped from the Milwaukee store.? So, I can only say that my experience with HRO was very good.
