Lotus 23 Custom Aluminum Radiator & Oil Cooler
HI
I wanted to share with you all a recent positive experience of mine that I had with a Chinese supplier to whom I turned for the construction of the radiator (water and oil) for my lotus 23A this is the link:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Lotus-23-and-23B-1962-1965-Custom-Aluminum-Radiator-Oil-Cooler/164375179087?hash=item2645862f4f:g:dv4AAOSwMXxfWDw4
The product is very good and comes at a fraction of the cost (? 299) and with free shipping

Out of curiosity I followed this link to the ebay listing. ?Then I zoomed in on the photo and got a surprise. ?That's my former car (23-S-28) and a photo I took on my driveway in September, 2013. ?The radiator is not aluminum. ?It was an NOS aftermarket (maybe Bill Stegal) brass unit that came with the car. ?I can't recall why I painted it silver-gray, but I was working closely with Craig Kindervater on configurations and finishes so I presume I had some reason.

if you pay with paypall you will receive a refund if the radiator has defects; I did a tightness check of both the water and oil circuits .. at double the normal pressure ... but I had no problems (no leaks in the 24 hours of the test).

I've seen the listing. There was no backup for a wrench on the oil cooler lines. The top rad mounting brackets were not shaped as close to original as could be. I was thinking of using one in my L20/22. Undecided as yet. My L23 alloy radiator from source unknown in the UK leaked after 5 years. Just had it recored for oil & water in Alabama for $503.?
Gerry - small world! Luciano, Since you have one in your hands, what are the dimensions - height, length, depth??? and the are the threads for the oil cooler 1/2 BSP or 5/8" BSP or? Thanks Mike K |

开云体育Mounting an aluminum cooler in the same fashion as a copper/brassradiator usually doesn’t hold up over time. The aluminum can’t take the vibration and abuse that brass can. I learned this lesson the hard way years ago. Aluminum radiators are typically set in a cradle rather than hard mounted.
