Don't forget the crack-checks!

Hi All, thought I'd share the following with you as this could have been nasty. ?Have just been treating my 23 to it's regular 24 month new caliper and master cylinder seals all round ( marvellous stuff Castrol SRF but tough on the seals) and while the calipers were off went to do a dye-penetrant crack test on the caliper mounts. ?Turned out I didn't need the dye, just a quick look with a torch.... ?Three cracks on one original caliper mount, all impossible to see when assembled. ?Guess I shouldn't be suprised on a near 60 year old highly porous sand casting subjected to modern brake pad loads, but still, quote sobering to see.
Lotus rule! ?Nick

I believe the problem can be the 7/16" bolt... too long shank and/or short thread... The result is an expanding thread hole... I have seen something similar on my car...
