Hello 23 list

23 Group:
Good to see some activity on the list. I have been
lurking here for some time and enjoy hearing about
others adventures and about 23's in particular.
Currently considering the purchase of a 23, if anyone
has info on one for sale, please advise.

Ellis and all,

I for one like Ellis idea. Get back as much as
possible to the original look.

Hi to all and wishing everyone a happy healthy
prosperous and
successful racing year.
I have to agree that there needs to be more chit
chat for our
members. Why? Because there is so much info out
there and who knows
it better than we 23 owners!
A brief update on my 23. I had to cut out the
rear fender skirts
to race with Dunlop FF tires, and now with our local
fiberglass Guru
an avid lotusphile He is restoring the fender skirts
and some other
spider repair. I hope to be able to paint the car
red and place the
original livery of Arciero Brothers Racing on the
side. I am
starting to get excited. Any comments?
Ellis

Hello to all.
?
I am Carl Moore...and race here in Northern Calif.? Have been vintage racing for 25 years and currently own a Lotus 20, 23B, 19 (Climax powered) and a McLaren M6.? I got my 23 early in 2004 and the first time I drove it I scared myself to death.? The car was horrible.? I drove Dave Olson's car and found a big difference, so we (John Anderson Racing at Sears Point) went to work on set up and such.? What a difference .?? I won our race (not supposed to worry about that but it was fun) at the Monterey Pre-Historics and John and I won the the CSRG enduro in November...
?
My point on this is that a good one is great and a bad one is very very bad (Lotus 23's that is)... I have number 23S-102 which has 23C corners on it....I bought it that way from Doug Johnson......The front wheels are the same as 23B rears and the rears are 1 inch wider.? I have the normal bodywork on the car....which does not show any "fat" rear bodywork over the rear wheels...and the side skirts are still in place.?
?
Love the car..... just get it set up right and you can have more fun than you deserve..
?
Cheers.
Carl

?
I have the wobblys also.....sent one of mine rear ones, which I think is 7 inches, to Don Schaffer who had it duplicated.....so folks can now get the wobblys in the wider sections easily.
?
We have three wonderful tracks around Northern Calif..... Sears Point, Thunderhill and Laguna Seca...so if ya bring your cars over....plan on trying to run with us at other events too.
?
Cheers
Carl

I know what you mean!? Mine is number 23S-105,? also has 23C suspension and wheels, as I got it over 30 years ago (although I have the ordinary wobbly wheels and stuff).? Fantastic handling, despite much lower power and straight line?speed, has enabled me to get ahead of the Piper Ferrai's and the big?cobra's numerous times.
?
A few of us here (including Arno Church who races a lotus 7, here in South Africa, and is a member of this list) are hoping to arrange a trip to race at?Laguna Segca?at the big historic race in about August, with our cars.? Perhaps we will see some of the members there, if it works out.

Eric:

Your idea about coming to the Historics sounds great. Be sure and keep us informed of your plans if they come together. The sports racer group, should it be accepted again for this year's Historics, includes a number of 23's. We could easily arrange a 23 Group gathering while attending the race to swap information, stories, lies, etc. Start planning now!

Hi Mike..
?
Yes it is my 19.? I purchased the car in August from Canada.? It is quite original and was a famous car in its time... I have only driven it once in practice about a month ago and John is going through it to make it some improvements,....including getting rid of that ugly roll bar.
?
John is one of the best around and the best part is that he and the guys with him are very honest.....and hard working.
?
Good luck with the 51
?
Carl

Carl:
I have seen your car and spoke with John Anderson
about it and the problems you had when first driven.
I have been to John's shop a couple of times. He is a
very nice man and will doing some upcoming work on a
Lotus 51 for me and my buddy, the owner. Is that your
19 in his shop as well?
