I have a muffler installed on my 23. I got muffler from Hi-Tech
Exhaust in Irvine, Ca. John Grudynski is the owner and has put
mufflers on many racing cars. My car has a standard 4 1/2 in. dia
muffler with a 2 in. through pipe that is about 14 in. long. This
system fits most small 4 cyl engines. I have not noticed a
performance reduction since installation. I am racing this weekend
at Laguna Seca and will take the opportunity to take some good
pictures of the installation and some measurments for your
information. John at Hi-Tech is willing to work with you in the
installation but you know race cars. The installation all depends
on the headers installed and what else is going on with the exhaust
presently installed in the car. In my car, the headers come into
the collector at the floor of the car right next to the bell
housing. From there the pipe went uphill to exit over the tube that
the rear body is hinged on. It went straight out of the body at
that point. I just made the same shape from the collector aft with
the muffler can located just behind the axle coupling and slanting
up. It is held in place with a tube that is attached to the large
bolt that holds the rear bracket in place and then goes down to a
flange that is the same diameter of the muffler and fits over the
top of the muffler. The muffler is held to this flange with a hose
clamp. It all seems to work well and I have had no problems passing
the 92 db limits at Laguna Seca.
Hi-Tech can be reached at 12 Hammond Drive, Suite 202, Irvine, Ca.
92618. His phone is 949-581-2181. I will post the measurements and
photos after this weekend.
